Around 10:15 the waterfall came into view. It falls about 20 feet and is fed from the outflow of the Waiahole Ditch system.
Streams with pools in Hawai`i seem to be populated by lovely water nymphs as you can see in the next photo.
The water flowing down the water fall comes from this tunnel. My guess is that the flow to the fall is controled by blocking or unblocking the sluce gate as can be seen in the above picture. This blockage would cause water to backup behind the gate and some would run in the opposite direction which would lead to the leeward side of the mountains.
