COME SEE MY GARDEN

If life goes on forever
As some have said it will
Then I have years to squander
A lifetime passed is nil

This one's for the children
Crossing troubled waters
Nothing's lost by living
For little sons and daughters

Come see my garden grow
See the pretty colors glow
Gleaming in the sunshine
Singing in the showers

Budding into flowers
Come see my garden
See my garden grow

By and bye we'll see the day
When fear is overcome
And pride has been undone
But this one's for the children
Our daughters and our sons
(Gini Schmitz, used with permission)

WHEN YOU THOUGHT I WASN'T LOOKING

When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw you hang my first painting on
the refrigerator,
and I wanted to paint another one.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw you feed a stray cat, and
I thought it was good to be kind to animals.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw you make my favorite cake just for me,
and I knew that little things
are special things.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I heard you say a prayer,
and I believed there is a God
I could always talk to.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I felt you kiss me good night,
and I felt loved.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw tears come from your eyes,
and I learned that sometimes things hurt,
but it's all right to cry.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw that you cared and I wanted to
be everything that I could be.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I looked ... and wanted to say thanks
for all the things I saw
when you thought I wasn't looking.

The Rose

Slowly pulling petals,
From a sweet and fragrant rose;
Watching them fall from my fingertips,
Like winter's falling snow.
Knowing that each petal,
Protects the rose's heart,
Still I pull them one by one,
Gently taking it apart.
Then when the petals are all gone,
The last one on the ground;
I see at last the tender heart,
Of the fragrant rose I found.
Just as slowly,
you are pulling every petal from my heart;
With every look and every touch,
Gently taking me apart.
You know with every petal,
You see right to my soul;
But yet you pull them one by one,
No longer am I whole.
Now that the petals are all gone,
With my defenses down;
You see at last the tender heart,
Of the fragrant rose you found.

Dear Friend

If I could wish for just one friend
my troubles would glide quite free.
Nothing would I ask of you
but a smile for me to see!
Nothing hard would I ever ask
no star to reach and fling,
Just a smile is all I need
from a friend who helps me sing!

I asked

I asked the creator for strength,
that I may achieve,
I was made weak to learn to be humble.
I asked the creator for health,
that I may do greater things,
I was given infirmity,
so that I may do better things.
I asked the creator for wealth,
that I may have material comforts,
I was given poverty,
so that I may learn wisdom.
I asked the creator for power,
so I could control others,
I was given weakness,
so I would feel the need for others.
I asked the creator for all things
to make my life enjoyable,
I was given life to enjoy all things.
I received nothing that I asked for,
---but everything I hoped for.

A Dream is a Powerful Thing

Just imagine .....
an inner garden ...
you can embrace ...
filled with happiness ...
laughter ...
inspiration ....
and a little mischief,
laughter and fun so as not to be too boring!
Laughter is healing
to the heart and to the soul. ENJOY!
Imagine a Place where the wells
of joy never run dry ...
and the child within
is always safe and loved ...
Remember to view life
through the innocent eyes of a child ....
the ever imaginative and creative
child within your heart!
Its all within your heart!
Heaven is found within the heart
when one allows life to be seen ....
in this way
Remember to smile and share joy with others:
when adult life becomes stressful,
stop and breathe ...
relax and remember ...
to laugh and let yourself be silly
just as kids do ....
they are teachers too!
Life is too short to be all serious ....
Take time to smell the roses
and enjoy the view along the way ...
rather than making a living .....
live life in the making & let that giggle out!!
Love life and live love.
Just imagine ....
and have patience ....
open your heart to life ...
Be a kid at heart - and never quite grow up!
Life is a journey of discovery that never ends.
I have a little sign on my desk that says ...
Patience ...
have patience with me ...
I'm still growing up!

LIFE'S LITTLE INSTRUCTIONS

Sing in the shower.
Treat everyone you meet
like you want to be treated.
Watch a sunrise at least once a year.
Leave the toilet seat in the down position.
Never refuse homemade brownies.
Strive for excellence, not perfection.
Plant a tree on your birthday.
Learn 3 clean jokes.
Return borrowed vehicles
with the gas tank full.
Compliment 3 people every day.
Never waste an opportunity
to tell someone you love them.
Leave everything
a little better than you found it.
Keep it simple.
Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures.
Become the most positive
and enthusiastic person you know.
Floss your teeth.
Ask for a raise
when you think you've earned it.
Overtip breakfast waitresses.
Be forgiving of yourself and others.
Say, "Thank you" a lot.
Say, "Please" a lot.
Avoid negative people.
Buy whatever kids are selling
on card tables in their front yards.
Wear polished shoes.
Remember other people's birthdays.
Commit yourself to constant improvement.
Carry jumper cables in your truck.
Have a firm handshake.
Send lots of Valentine cards.
Sign them, "Someone who thinks you're terrific.
Look people in the eye.
Be the first to say hello.
Use the good silver.
Return all things you borrow.
Make new friends, but cherish the old ones.
Keep a few secrets.
Sing in a choir.
Plant flowers every spring.
Have a dog.
Always accept an outstretched hand.
Stop blaming others.
Take responsibility for every area of your life.
Wave at kids on school busses.
Be there when people need you.
Feed a stranger's expired parking meter.
Don't expect life to be fair.
Never underestimate the power of love.
Drink champagne for no reason at all.
Live your life as an exclamation,
not an explanation.
Don't be afraid to say, "I made a mistake."
Don't be afraid to say, "I don't know."
Compliment even small improvements.
Keep your promises no matter what.
Marry for love.
Rekindle old friendships.
Count your blessings.
Call your mother.

Life

Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is bliss, taste it.
Life is a dream, realize it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is costly, care for it.
Life is wealth, keep it.
Life is love, enjoy it.
Life is mystery, know it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is life, fight for it.

The Invitation

It doesn't interest me
what you do for a living:
I want to know what you ache for,
and if you dare to dream
of meeting your heart's longing.

It doesn't interest me how old you are:
I want to know if you will risk
looking like a fool for love,
for your dreams,
for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn't interest me
what planets are squaring your moon:
I want to know if you have touched
the center of your own sorrow,
If you have been opened by life's betrayals,
Or if you have become shriveled
and closed from fear of further pain!

I want to know if you can sit with pain,
mine or your own,
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with JOY,
mine or your own;
If you can dance with wildness
and let the ecstasy fill you
to the tips of your fingers and toes
without cautioning us to be careful,
be realistic,
or to remember the limitations of being a human.

It doesn't interest me
if the story you're telling me is true:
I want to know if you can disappoint
another to be true to yourself.
If you can bear the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
I want to know if you can be faithful
and therefore be trustworthy.
I want to know if you can see beauty
even when it is not pretty every day and if
you can source your life from its presence.
I want to know if you can live with failure,
yours and mine, and still stand
on the edge of a lake and shout
to the silver of the full moon, "YES!"

It doesn't interest me to know
where you live or how much money you have:
I want to know if you can get up
after the night of grief and despair,
weary and bruised to the bone,
and do what needs to be done for the children.

It doesn't interest me who you are,
how you came to be here:
I want to know if you will stand
in the center of the fire with me
and not shrink back.

It doesn't interest me where
or what or with whom you have studied:
I want to know what sustains you
from the inside when all else falls away.
I want to know if you can be
alone with yourself,
and if you truly like the company
you keep in these empty moments.

Indian Elder, May 1994)

God's Garden

The flowers in God's garden
Are many different hues,
From shades of white to brightest red,
With yellows, greens, and blues.

How sadly uninspiring
If each one looked the same,
And every flower planted
Had to share a common name.

Each flower bears a fragrance
That stands alone as sweet,
But blends to make the garden
Aromatically complete.

The people in God's garden
Have many facets too.
Rich or poor or thin or fat,
Islamic, Christian, Jew.

So why not take a lesson
From the Gardener's own hand
And complement each other
So all can understand ...

God's love is not a secret --
It's etched upon each face.
The people garden is but one --
The blooming human race.

Question the Truth of My Actions

I have an array of emotions and feelings
in which I choose to honor.

I respect and accept my difference of
character among the status quo.

To ask why does not unnerve my spirit
for I will gladly give my expression of
truths by sound, which form words.

My unsettling nature comes when you
continue to demean my spirit after I
have stood in the center of my truth
and called forth your ear of compassion.

Help me help you...
The beginning of understanding is to not
understand. It opens a new door to receive
information. Take my hand and we will
experience it together.

A Child

Watch, listen, hold out your hand
life is renewing itself every moment
purest innocence is all around
eyes that have seen no violence,
ears that have heard no lies,
thoughts that are free of fear,
all they know is love.
the only perfect love.
a life defined by trust
unaware of life as we know it.
Shelter each child
look at life through their eyes.
Recognize what they see,
reach for it, hold on to it,
and what a better day it will be!

Angel At Your Side

May you always have an Angel by your side
Watching out for you in all the things you do
Reminding you to keep believing in brighter days
Finding ways for your wishes and dreams
to take you to beautiful places
Giving you hope that is as certain as the sun
Giving you the strength of serenity as your guide
May you always have love and comfort and courage
And may you always have an angel by your side

May you always have an Angel by your side
Someone there to catch you if you fall
Encouraging your dreams
Inspiring your happiness
Holding your hand and helping you through it all

In all of our days, our lives are always changing
Tears come along as well as smiles
Along the roads you travel, may the miles
be a thousand times more lovely than lonely
May they give you
the kind of Christmas gifts that never, ever end:

Someone wonderful to love
And a dear friend in whom you can confide
May you have rainbows after every storm
May you have hopes to keep you warm
And may you always have an Angel by your side.
