One song can spark a moment,
One flower can wake the dream.
One tree can start a forest,
One bird can herald spring.
One smile begins a friendship,
One handclasp lifts a soul.
One star can guide a ship at sea,
One word can frame the goal.
One vote can change a nation,
One sunbeam lights a room.
One candle wipes out darkness,
One laugh will conquer gloom.
One step must start each journey,
One word must start each prayer.
One hope will raise our spirits,
One touch can show you care.
One voice can speak with wisdom,
One heart can know what's true,
One life can make the difference,
You see, it's up to you

Imagine there is a bank
which credits your account
each morning with $86,400,
carries over no balance from day to day,
allows you to keep no cash balance,
and every morning cancels whatever part
of the amount you had failed
to use during the day.
What would you do?
Draw out every cent, of course!
Well, everyone has such a bank.
It's name is TIME.
Every morning it credits you with 86,400 seconds.
Every night it writes off, as lost,
whatever you have failed to invest
to good purpose and carries over no balance.
It allows no overdraft.
Each day it opens a new account for you.
Each night it burns the records of the day.
If you fail to use the day's deposits,
the loss is yours.
There is no going back.
There is no drawing against "tomorrow".
You must live in the present
on the day's deposits.
Invest it so as to get from it
the utmost in health, happiness and success!
The clock is running.
Make the most of today.
To realize the value of ONE YEAR
Ask a student who has failed her CHEM exam.
To realize the value of ONE MONTH
ask a mother who has given birth
to a pre-mature baby.
To realize the value of ONE WEEK
ask an editor of a weekly newspaper.
To realize the value of ONE DAY
ask a daily wage laborer who has ten kids to feed.
To realize the value of ONE HOUR
ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.
To realize the value of ONE MINUTE
ask a person who has missed the train.
To realize the value of ONE SECOND
ask a person who has survived an accident.
To realize the value of ONE MILLI-SECOND
ask the person who has won
a silver medal in the olympics.
Treasure every moment that you have!
And treasure it with more
because you have shared it with someone special...
special enough to have your time...
and remember time waits for no one.

I would have talked less and listened more.
I would have invited friends over to dinner
even if the carpet was stained
and the sofa faded.
I would have eaten the popcorn
in the 'good' living room
and worried much less about the dirt
when someone wanted to light a fire
in the fireplace.
I would have taken the time to listen
to my grandfather ramble about his youth.
I would never have insisted the car windows
be rolled up on a summer day
because my hair
had just been teased and sprayed.
I would have burned the rose sculpted
pink candle before it melted in storage.
I would have sat on the lawn with my children
and not worried about grass stains.
I would have cried and laughed less
while watching television
and more while watching life.
I would have shared more of the
responsibility carried by my husband.
I would have gone to bed when I was sick
instead of pretending the earth
would go into a holding pattern
if I weren't there for the day.
I would have never bought anything
just because it was practical,
wouldn't show soil or
was guaranteed to last a lifetime.
Instead of wishing away
nine months of pregnancy,
I'd have cherished every moment
and realized that the wonderment
growing inside me was the only chance
in life to assist God in a miracle.
When my kids kissed me impetuously,
I would never have said,
"Later, Now go get washed up for dinner."
There would have been more "I love yous,"
more "I'm sorrys,"
but mostly, given another shot at life,
I would seize every minute,
look at it and really see it, live it,
and never give it back.
(Erma Bombeck)
If not for loss,
we would not recognize gain.
If not for fatigue,
we would not appreciate energy.
If not for death,
we would not be thankful for life.
If not for poverty,
we could not appreciate prosperity.
If not for ignorance,
we could not appreciate wisdom.
If not for failure,
we could not fully appreciate success.
If not for harm,
we could not appreciate safety.
If not for confusion,
we would not appreciate peace.
If not for cowardice,
we could not appreciate bravery.
If not for enemies,
we would not know the meaning of friends.
If not for betrayal,
we would not appreciate loyalty.
If not for fog,
we could not appreciate clarity.
If not for hate,
we would not appreciate love.
If not for reality,
dreams would have no meaning.
If not for shallowness,
we would not appreciate insight.
If not for shame,
we could not appreciate pride.
If not for bad,
we would have no appreciation of good.
If not for sorrow,
we would not understand joy.
If it were not for our past,
The present may be much easier to accept.
But as you noticed, a world without scars,
is a world without meaning.

Have you ever watched kids
on a merry-go-round,
or listened to rain slapping the ground?
Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight,
or gazed at the sun fading into the night?
You better slow down, don't dance so fast,
time is short, the music won't last.
Do you run through each day on the fly,
When you ask "How are you?",
do you hear the reply?
When the day is done,
do you lie in your bed,
with the next hundred chores
running through your head?
You better slow down, don't dance so fast,
time is short, the music won't last.
Ever told your child, we'll do it tomorrow,
and in your haste not see his sorrow?
Ever lost touch, let a good friendship die,
'cause you never had time
to call and say "hi"?
You better slow down, don't dance so fast,
time is short, the music won't last.
When you run so fast to get somewhere,
you miss half the fun of getting there?
When you worry and hurry through your day,
it's like an unopened gift thrown away.
Life is not a race, so take it slower,
hear the music before the song is over.

If I could paint a picture
that would erase the shadows in a heart,
I would paint it for you.
If I could sketch away sorrows
your sorrows would cease to be,
and only love would form the lines
on your brow.
If I could create a portrait
designed to capture the essence of friendship,
your face would be upon the canvas.
A mosaic of modesty,
charcoal of class,
all presented in a landscape of gentleness.
An etched depiction of humanity
in it's best form,
a tribute to mankind's goodness.
If only I could paint a picture...
(Bobbie Kilzer Gogain)
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies;
Or being hated, don't give way to hating;
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise.
If you can dream---
and not make dreams your master;
If you can think---
and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster;
And treat those two impostors just the same.
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools;
Or watch the things you gave your life to,
broken and stoop and
build 'em up with worn-out tools.
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of itch-and-toss
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss.
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them:
"Hold on!"
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue;
Or walk with Kings---nor lose the common touch.
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run;
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it
And---which is more---you'll be a Man, my son!
(Rudyard Kipling)
Two roads diverged in a yellow woods,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference. -
(Robert Frost)
Too soon the sun is rising
Another day ahead
And it's time to turn the lights out
And you're safe within your bed
I'll be watching from the kitchen
And if I should hear you cry
I will hold you in my arms, dear
I will sing a lullaby
You can follow any rainbow
To find your pot of gold
Do it now while you're young
Do it now while you can
While you're safe in Mama's hand.
Too soon the sun is rising
It brings another day
And the paper dolls we've played with
Have all been put away
And the moon is winking at you
If your ship of dreams must sail
Do it now while you're young
Do it now while you can
While you're safe in Mama's hand
Oh, while you're safe in Mama's hand...
(Chad and Terri Sigafus
Accepts you as you are
Believes in "you"
Calls you just to say "hi"
Doesn't give up on you
Envisions the whole of you
(even the unfinished parts)
Forgives your mistakes
Gives unconditionally
Helps you
Invites into his/her heart
Just because
Keeps you close at heart
Loves you for who you are
Makes a difference in your life
Never Judges
Offers support
Picks you up
Quiets your fears
Raises your spirits
Says nice things about you
Tells you the truth when you need to hear it
Understands you
Values you
Walks beside you
Xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo
Yells at you when you won't listen and
Zaps you back to reality
May we always be "good buddies"
May we always be "good friends"
and may our friendship be the kind
that never ends.................

When at times in dark despair
Life seems more than you can bear
If sometimes life seems so unfair
When pain and hurt are everywhere
Then seek the child within.
When every day feels long as night
And all your friends have taken flight--
There's no one left for you to share
For no one seems to really care--
Then seek the child within.
If life's demands allow no play--
You feel you work your life away--
No time no rest just shear dismay
And hope seems lost and far away
Remember when you laughed and smiled?
Seek within and find that child.
The time of wonder and discover--
When tears were wiped away by Mother.
A time of jam and peanut butter
A time for sharing with another.
Carousels and laughing clowns,
Painted nose and painted frowns.
New games to play week after week,
First go hide, and then go seek!
And while seeking, look within,
Let the child come out again!
The child within is full of hope--
And always finds a way to cope,
For if today brings only sorrow--
The sun will shine again tomorrow.
Close your eyes and remember when
You were just a child again.
Full of hope, everlasting new--
Embrace the child, that child is you!
(Robert Kogan)
Dear Lord, it's such a hectic day
With little time to stop & pray
For life's been anything but calm
Since you called me to be a mom.
Running errand's, matching sock's
Building dreams with matching blocks
Cooking, cleaning finding shoe's
And other stuff that children lose
Fitting lids on bottled bugs,
Wiping tears and giving hugs,
A stack of last weeks mail to read
So where's the quiet time I need?
Yet when I steal a moment, Lord
Just at the sink or ironing board
To ask the blessings of Your grace
I see them in my small one's face
That you have blessed me
All the while
And I stoop to kiss
That precious smile
(Author Unknown)
I stopped to watch my little girl
busy playing in her room.
In one hand was a plastic phone;
in the other a toy broom.
I listened as she was speaking
to her make believe little friend
and I'll never forget the words she said,
even though it was pretend.
She said, "Suzie's in the corner
cuz she's not been very good.
She didn't listen to a word I said
or do the things she should."
In the corner I saw her baby doll
all dressed in lace and pink.
It was obvious she'd been put there
to sit alone and think.
My daughter continued her "conversation,"
as I sat down on the floor.
She said, "I'm all fed up I just don't know
what to do with her anymore?
She whines whenever I have to work
and wants to play games, too;
she never lets me do the things
that I just have to do?
She tries to help me with the dishes,
but her arms just cannot reach
and she doesn't know how to fold the towels
and I don't have the time to teach.
I have a lot of work to do
and a big house to keep clean.
I don't have the time to sit and play --
don't you know what I mean?"
And that day I thought a lot about
making some changes in my life;
as I listened to her innocent words
that cut me like a knife.
I hadn't been paying enough attention
to what I hold most dear.
I'd been caught up in responsibilities
that increased throughout the year.
But now my attitude has changed,
because, in my heart, I realize
I've seen the world in a different light
through my little darling's eyes.
So, let the cobwebs have the corners
and the dustbunnies rule the floor,
I'm not going to worry about
keeping up with them anymore.
I'm going to fill the house with memories
of a child and her mother
for God grants us Only One Childhood,
and we will never get another.
(Linda Ellis www.lindaslyrics.com)
To laugh often and much;
to win the respect of intelligent people
and the affection of children;
to earn the appreciation of honest critics
and to endure the betrayal of false friends;
to appreciate beauty;
to find the best in others;
to leave the world a bit better
whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch or
a redeemed social condition;
to know even one life has breathed easier
because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.
(Ralph Waldo Emerson)
My little boy came into the kitchen
this evening while I was fixing supper,
And handed me a piece
of paper he'd been writing on.
So, after wiping my hands on my apron,
I read it, and this is what it said:
For mowing the grass, $5
For making my own bed this week, $1.
For going to the store $.50.
For playing with baby brother
while you went shopping, $.25.
For taking out the trash, $1.
For getting a good report card, $5.
And for raking the yard, $2.
Well, I looked at him
standing there expectantly,
and a thousand memories flashed
through my mind. So, I picked up the paper,
and turning it over, this is what I wrote:
For the nine months I carried you,
growing inside me, No Charge,
for the nights I sat up with you,
doctored you, prayed for you, No Charge,
for the time and the tears,
and the cost through the years, No Charge.
For the nights filled with dread,
and the worries ahead, there's no charge.
For advice and the knowledge,
and the cost of your college, No Charge.
For the toys, food and clothes,
and for wiping your nose, there's No Charge Son.
When you add it all up,
the full cost of my love is No Charge.
Well, when he finished reading,
he had great big tears in his eyes.
And he looked up at me and he said,
"Mama, I sure do love you."
Then he took the pen and
in great big letters he wrote,
PAID IN FULL.
When you add it all up,
the cost of real love is No Charge.
