Isaac got up the next morning and found the mail on the table. A small package with his name on it stopped his journey for breakfast.
He picked it up and looked for a return address. Seeing that tThere was none, not even a stamp he looked up ready to ask someone about it.
It seemed as if everyone else was already gone though.
Tearing open the package anyway, he saw the cassette tape. Hmm, the last time I got a cassette like this in the mail was from D. But it was because she wanted me to hear a new song by Whitney Houston.
He remembered how much Dahven loved that song and had requested it to be played every time they went to 'The Club.'
Must be another new song for me to hear. He thought as he went over to the family's stereo and popped the tape in. He listened for the music.
You and me, we used to be together. Everyday together. Always. I really feel, that I'm losin' my best friend. I can't believe this could be the end. It looks as though, you're letting go. And if this is real then I don't want to know. Don't speak, I know what you're saying. So please stop explaining. Don't tell me 'cause it hurts. Don't speak, I know what you're thinking. And I don't need your reasons. Don't tell me 'cause it hurts.
Gwen Stefanni's voice echoed through his mind. Continuously bouncing of the walls of his brain. Our memories, well they can be inviting. But some are all together mighty frightening. And as we die, won't you and I? With my head in my hands I sit and cry.
Isaac stopped the cassette from playing anymore. He placed his head in his hands. "What'd I do?" He asked out loud, miserable by the fact that he had just lost his best friend. And for a reason he didn’t quite know.
"How about dancing with Julia to your guys' song?" Taylor suggested.
Isaac looked up at him. "Julia told me that D told her that it was on loan for us."
"Charm would never loan out a memory, Ike." Taylor ground out harshly. "Especially one that was sacred. You know that they practically won't let anyone else request that song at 'The Club.'" He took pleasure in pointing out that small fact. "Charm is your best friend. You know her too well for that, man."
Isaac shook his head as he took the tape out of the stereo and waved it in front of Taylor's face. "I don't know her at all, Tay."
"Then write to her and talk about it." Taylor pleaded. "She doesn't deserve this, Ike."
Isaac looked at his sore and bruised hand.
Zac had accidentally slammed it in a door last night. He wasn't going to be able to play the guitar regularly for a long while. He nodded his head slowly. "I will." He promised.
Dahven waited patiently for Kasha to come into the dining room for her coffee. As suspected Kasha did show up. "We need to talk." She said as she wrung her small hands in front of her.
Kasha looked surprised. "It's been a long time since you needed to talk to me."
Dahven grimaced, she need not be reminded of that. "Why did you let Mister Reed force Syrus into marrying you when you were pregnant with Arie?" She blurted out.
Kasha's face turned ghostly pale. "Because I had no money, no job, my parent's were about to kick me out of the house, I was pregnant, and I was barely fifteen." She said calmly. "Syrus' parents paid for my schooling here. I barely even knew how to read or write, Charm."
Dahven nodded slowly. "Okay, now I want to tell you of a little story. One night a guy comes home from a party. He's a married man and has a son. That was an 'Accident.' He's drunk and sees his wife. He raped his wife and she conceived a child that night." She said coldly. "Now added to the family is the 'Reminder."
Kasha swallowed the lump in her throat. "That's not fair, Charm." She stated. "Times were different back then. It was veru stressful and hectic." She defended.
"You're right, Kasha. It isn't fair. But neither is finding about how you were conceived by a cold, heartless person." Dahven said as she stood up to leave.
"Charm, I might as well tell you this now." Kasha said taking a deep breath. "Syrus and I are getting a divorce."
Dahven felt as if a cold hand had just slapped her. Hard. She nodded her head. "Then I should tell you this now." She said crossing her arms in front of her chest. "Neither you nor Syrus is getting custody of me. I promise you that." She said before retreating to her room.
Isaac was thinking about the conversation he just had with Julia. "D don't like to be called D no more?" He asked himself silently.
Shaking his head, he got out a piece of paper and a pen. He tapped the pen against his lips as he thought of what he was going to write Dahven.
Dear Charm,
What's up with you lately? You seem to be completely different. It's like you had a personality transformation, or something. Anyways meet on the park at five where we always used to meet.
Love,
Ike
Reading over his letter, Isaac folded it, and placed it in it's envelope. He licked the glue. "Aww, sick!!" He complained as he sealed the letter. He wrote Charm on the front of the envelope.
Taylor and Zac walked in grabbing their rollerblade's.
"Hey, guys." He said smiling at them.
"Uh, oh. I know that look." Zac said hiding behind Taylor.
"What do you want us to do?" Taylor asked sighing.
"Deliver this letter to D for me." Isaac said smiling gratefully.
Taylor nodded as he took the letter from Isaac and ran out of the room.
Zac looked at Isaac; "I'm surprised that Devil Lady' hasn't burned Tay and I into ashes yet." He said walking out.
Taylor rang the doorbell again.
This time an old man in a servant's attire answered the door. "May I help you, young man?" He asked stiffly.
Taylor nodded; "Yes, I need to give this to Charm." He said holding up the envelope.
Before he knew it, the old man had the letter and started to close the door. "I'll make sure Miss Christian receives this document." He said shutting the door in Taylor's face.
"Yeah, he really loves his job." He said sarcastically as he bladed down the driveway.
Dahven could have sworn that Taylor was walking down her driveway. Well, she should say blading.
She quickly shook her head of the thought. "If that was Taylor he would've came in for a while to hang out."
So she decided to get up to see who did show up at their door. "Oh, Herb?" She called out to her family's butler.
"Yes, Miss Christian?" He asked turning around.
"Who was at the door?" She asked curiously.
"No one really, Miss. He wanted me to give you this." He said handing her the envelope. "He didn't give me his name or anything, Miss." He said crisply before walking away.
Dahven stared down at the envelope. Her name was written on the front, but she didn't recognize the handwriting. "Hmm," She said opening it.
She read it, then started laughing. "This is a good joke. Isaac never calls me Charm and he has never signed a letter to me 'Ike.' Plus," she said smiling. "This isn't even his handwriting."
Walking back up into her room, she tossed it into the wastebasket in the corner.
Closing her eyes, she said. "Some one is going out of their way to make my life a living hell."
"And the sad thing is, is that they are succeeding. And it's not fair! Make them pick on someone else for a while." She said bitterly as she noticed that she was talking to herself.
"Great! And now I'm going insane." She said quietly.
