FARAMIR'S BIOGRAPHY
Faramir is the secondborn son of Denethor II, Steward of Gondor, and Finduilas of Dol Amroth in TA 2983. Finduilas died when he was only five, and his father had never shown much faith or love towards him. As a result, Faramir grew and looked up to his older brother, Boromir, loved by their father and heir to the Stewardship of Gondor. As he grew up, he became more interested in lore and music. He was able to "read the hearts of men as shrewdly as his father, but what he read moved him sooner to pity rather than scorn". Whenever Gandalf came to visit Minas Tirith, he would often spend time with him, learning all he can from the wizard (which made Faramir fall into his father's bad graces, amoung other things). He had a very close relationship of Boromir, and neither of them were ever jealous of each other. Over the years, Faramir's relationship with his father did not change.
Faramir is one of the Captains of Gondor, handling the Ithilien side that is close to Mordor and across the Anduin. He was the first to discover his brother Boromir's dead body in the Lorien boat floating on the river. A few days later, he came across Frodo and Sam during the War of the Ring and allowed them safe passage and advice as they headed into Mordor. Soon after, Faramir went to Osgiliath to defend it from the armies of Mordor. They retreated to Minas Tirith, only to be sent back to reclaim Osgiliath again by the steward Denethor. Faramir survived holding the forces back, but was pierced by a poisoned dart and the Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth brought him back to Minas Tirith. Thinking his son close to death and all hope lost for his recovery and for victory, Denethor set up a pyre for himself and for Faramir to burn in, but Faramir was saved at the last minute by Beregond, member of the Gondor Guard.
After this incident, Faramir was sent to the House of Healing, where he was then healed by the skills of Aragorn. There he met Eowyn, sister of Eomer, and they fell in love. After the War of the Ring, Faramir maintained the title of Steward of Gondor, given rule of Ithilien and living in Emyn Arnen with Eowyn, whom he wedded. Faramir lived to 120.
