The parts that are needed to build your own computer system includes:

  1. CPU (Central Processing Unit)
  2. Memory, or RAM (Random access memory)
  3. Motherboard
  4. Video Card
  5. Sound Card
  6. Monitor or Display
  7. Hard Disk Drive
  8. Floppy Disk Drive
  9. CD-ROM or DVD-ROM Drive
  10. Keyboard and Mouse
  11. Case and Power Supply

 

Optional parts, which are needed, include: a modem, printer and scanner

CPU- performs mathematical operations and moves data

RAM-holds all programs and data, which are currently in use

Motherboard- is where all the computer components are attached

Videocard- A video card contains a GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) which handles the calculations that are required for the newest 3D games.

Sound card- provide digital audio processing capability to the computer

Monitor- is an output device displaying graphics, text and more


Hard drive- provides storage for all software application and data

Floppy drive- a drive that allows one to input data in the computer

DVD ROM- a device where one can read data, play music

Keyboard- a device that one presses to input characters to a computer.
