Mesopelagic Zone
- Extends from 200 meters to 1,000 meters deep.
- This zone is also referred to as the "twilight zone
" because there is very little light that can reach these depths.

Most fish at this depth are bioluminescent (glow in the dark). This helps them to find food.
- Many fish in this zone do not even have eyes!!! They are often very slow and their bodies are thin.
- Plants cannot grow here.
Search the internet with your group to find 3 more animals that live in the mesopelagic layer.
