Ulysses' Challenge #6
(Click here for last month's challenge)

(Who is Ulysses?)

(Ulysses enters wearing his drill instructor uniform...)

"Okay, chessplayers, now LISTEN UP!"

"This month we're doing some tactical training.  Strong opponents will see forks and other double attacks when you threaten them directly.  So the trick is to see the possibility before your opponent does and then find a forcing sequence to set it up.  That's the situation here.  White is going to use a skewer (also called an x-ray) to win material (the sneaky thing is the skewer comes on his third move!).  This month's challenge is to find the forcing sequence leading up to the killing thrust.  Forward, MARCH!"

White to move
