Following the Shadow Moses incident, and solid snake and otacon went underground. Starting their anti-Metal Gear organization "Philanthropy". They recieve a tip to the whereabouts of a new metal gear. Once again Snake is called back into action. The legendary hero had thrice saved the would from the menace of Metal Gear in the past, Solid Snake is an infiltration expert who always completes his mission no matter how difficult the odds. You play snake through the tanker chapter, which is actually a flashback, many of his weapons return from MGS (PSX), except for the FAMAS (there seems to be a gameshark code able to enable the FAMAS in snake's inventory.) Although you began the play mission as Raiden, solid snake does appear as a NPC (Non-Playable-Character) known as Pliskin, which you later find out is the actual Solid Snake (he was originally believed to had died in the tanker 2 years ago.)
