TRACKS
MKSC wields some pretty interesting and unique tracks. It's not like the SNES version with the same tracks but different versions (Mario Circuit 4, etc.), though 4 Bowser's Castles do exist. Plus, you can unlock all 20 of the SNES tracks (making 7 Bowser's Castles ... YIKES!) complete with original music (though some obstacles are missing). That means even two Rainbow Roads (both missing railings and wielding sharp turns ... OUCH!). So ... please enjoy!
Super Circuit Tracks
Mushroom Cup
Peach Circuit
The easiest of the Super Circuit tracks, naturally. After making the first sharp turn to the left, you have a kinda straight stretch with a slight turn or two. Then you get a slight turn to your right and back left. After a straight stretch, make another sharp turn left and you'll be at the lapline. Pretty easy. The only obstacles are trees, which you can hit easily if you get rammed off the road. Just avoid driving through the grassy terrain and you'll be fine.
Shy Guy Beach
Avoid the deep water (darker color). You sometimes are required to drive through the shallow water. Repetetive hopping sometimes reduces the slow-down. Avoid the crabs. They are quite annoying. Hitting one is like hitting a Banana Peel, so its possible to prevent spinning out. The Shy Guy Ship in the background will try to fire cannonballs at you, but it is extremely rare to actually get hit by one.
Riverside Park
A jungle stage by a river. Pretty simple. Don't hit the odd plants found in the grass (you shouldn't be jumping in the grass in the first place). There are a few jumps. All you have to do is manage to hit the zippers before the bumper (which is pretty much automatic) and you'll make the jump. If you somehow don't, you'll fall to a part of the track and most likely lose. Don't drive into the water either, though its shallow on the shore.
Bowser Castle 1
The first Bowser Castle proves to be very easy. Avoid the Thwomps all together. Don't drive into them and don't let them squash you. Also prevent falling into the lava. It's quite annoying sometimes. There are actually dirt patches, which are quite noticable, so avoid driving into those. On the jumps over lava, fireballs sometimes shoot out. Learn where they shoot out and avoid driving over them. It's common to get hit by one.
Flower Cup
Mario Circuit
This is basically like Peach Circuit. The same rules apply here. Avoid driving into the grass and running into the trees. It's pretty straight forward. There is a quite noticable shortcut near the end of the lap. Cut through the grass (unless you are using a heavyweight character) and hit the zipper, not to mention collecting the nice line of coins.
Boo Lake
The first of the few Boo stages. It's pretty easy here too. Avoid the holes in the pier. Of course, falling through isn't exactly recommended. ^_^ There are jumps here too, but all you got to do is hit the bumper before them. If you crash into the wall, one of the little blocks will fall down, revealing a hole in the wall that you can drive through and fall down into a pit. So, avoid that.
Cheese Land
A very odd stage indeed. Apparently, its a land made of cheese. Where'd Nintendo come up with this idea? It's infested with those little thief mice from Yoshi's Island and Paper Mario. They are basically obstacles. If you hit one, you may slide out. Since the road is nothing but cheese, you will slide around easily. Getting used to using your brakes and letting off the gas on turns would be a nice technique to acquire when racing here. Some of the off-road terrain won't slow you down much, so use that to your advantage.
Bowser Castle 2
The next one in the Bowser Castle series. It's pretty much the same story here as well. Don't fall in the lava, avoid fireballs and Thwomps, don't drive in the dirt terrain, etc. etc. Sometimes, you cross bridges without railing, so keep that it mind (I've been knocked off or slid off by accident countless times). Just race and you'll do alright.
Lightning Cup
Luigi Circuit
The raining effects are quite cool here. Pay attention to them such as when you are driving, etc. Anyway, since its raining, this track is going to be slippery, naturally. There are also rain puddles. Try to avoid or jump over them. They cause you to slip and slide out. The track is basically like the other circuits. Don't drive in the grass or hit trees. Still a cool stage, though.
Sky Garden
This track is pretty easy. It's basically a course in the clouds. There is NO railing anywhere. Luckily, the cloudy terrain near the edges slows you down. When you pass over bridges made of vines, avoid falling off the sides. The bridges are rather slippery. The track is quite simple and rather enjoyable. You shouldn't have trouble.
Cheep-Cheep Island
This is quite similar to Shy Guy Beach, but a little harder. The crabs return, so do your best to avoid them. There are also baby Goonies (from the Yoshi's Island world), but they can't harm you. When you pass over the narrow bridges, avoid falling off. The water is not shallow around them. There is some shallow water, however. Just pay attention to their shades. Near the end, you pass along a longer bridge with some railing, so don't be afraid to use Power Sliding here.
Sunset Wilds
Think Kalimari Desert from MK64, without the train. It's basically a desert-like track. Avoid the cacti and stuff. The humps in the road will bounce you up. Sometimes, coins are spread out between them and you must jump over the humps to get the coins. You will encounter little tents with Shy Guys inside as well. If you run over the tent, a Shy Guy will grab onto your back and slow you down. Avoid this at all costs. It is quite the annoyance.
Star Cup
Snow Land
The only new Snow level is one of the easiest tracks in the game. The only coins are one long line of coins. You acquire over 30 in seconds. The rest of the stage is basically on a slippery ice road with snow as the slow-down terrain. Avoid hitting the snowmen or the spinning penguins and you'll be fine. There are also a few cracks in the road with deep water in them, but they are relatively easy to avoid. Don't worry about it. There are some brighter colored patches of drive which will cause you to spin out, so avoid those as well.
Ribbon Road
I dunno why, but I love this track. It's quite simple also. There are no real obstacles except for presents in the wrapping-paper slow-down terrain. ^_^ The track is basically a bunch of turns, plenty of jumps, and tons of zippers. Try to nail every zipper you see and use Mushrooms on the jumps for a huge jump.
Yoshi Desert
The desert road is slippery like the road in Cheese Land's, so keep that in mind. This track is so kawaii, especially the huge Yoshi sphinx in the background. ^_^ There aren't very many real obstacles. Beware the "camoflagued" quicksand holes. If you get sucked in, a Piranha Plant will chew on you for a second and launch you out. It doesn't make you lose coins or spin out, but it does slow you down for a second. They are hard to spot, so it can be annoying.
Bowser Castle 3
Yet another one. Same rules apply here as well. All of the Bowser Castles are basically the same. Same obstacles, same jumps, same lava, same dirt, etc. They just change and get slightly tougher along the way. This one isn't too bad. Use the same rules as before and you should be OK. You may notice that there is a Magikoopa at the end. Fortunately, he can't harm you.
Special Cup
Lakeside Park
The first of the few very annoying tracks. It's similar to the Riverside Park, way back in the Mushroom Cup, but it has a volcano to torture you. Lava rocks can and will fall to the track, and getting beaned with one is a common occurance. Also avoid driving into the water. A lot of walls contain speed bumps. If you slide into the wall, you will most likely be catapulted to the other side and will probably lose. You have to get a feel for the track and learn to get used to the slippery road to succeed. Practice makes perfect.
Broken Pier
Though the name doesn't quite suggest it, this is the next Boo stage. It's pretty much the same as the first, but its longer and there are tons more places to fall down in. Also beware of the Boos that fly around. If you run into one, it will begin to haunt it, just like the Boo item would if someone used it and you were in first (see Items (Weapons)). A lot of people say this stage is hard, but its really not that difficult.
Bowser Castle 4
Aside from being the hardest of the bunch, this Bowser Castle finally introduces a new obstacle: those little wind-up Mecha Bowser toys. They are only near the end and act like other enemy obstacles: hit 'em, slide out. The track is basically like other Bowser Castles, so just use the same rules that applied to them and you'll be fine. There are plenty of alternate routes here, so pick the fastest (or easiest, or both) routes and go for it!
Rainbow Road
The newest Rainbow Road proves to be just as tough as the first. The only railing is at the goal line. That's it. There is no other railing anywhere. However, the edges are covered with speed bumps, which can save your life if you are a skilled racer. Though it may not seem like a good strategy, letting off on the gas or using the brakes works very well on the turns. These turns aren't Power Sliding-friendly. Don't worry. There are plenty of items to get the racers back with. Avoid the lightning clouds at all costs. If one strikes you, you will shrink. There is also a long straight stretch with some coins. Avoid the little stars (I call them "Twinks") that fall down for they will spin you out. It's simple, but some have shocked me a few times. Good luck!
Extra Tracks
Mushroom Cup
Mario Circuit 1
Proving to be the easiest track in the entire game, no, the entire Mario Kart series, you should have NO trouble here. Your only fears are sliding off the road, which would only result in minor slow-down on the grassy and sandy terrain. Don't worry. You can't possibly lose here.
Donut Plains 1
This track, however, can be a different story. The terrain is unbelievably slippery. There are a lot of huge turns, but you'll need the space because you'll slide all over the place. Just don't slide into the grass, which is rather tall and slows you down dramatically. There are no areas where you can fall into the water, but expect to deal with water in later versions of the Donut Plains.
Ghost Valley 1
The first of the Boo stages is very easy. Like the Boo tracks from the Super Circuit collection, ramming into a block on the wall will result in its disappearance, opening a small gap in the wall. Don't let this destroy your game plan. There are a few minor jumps, but its nothing to worry about. This is a relatively easy track.
Bowser Castle 1
This proves to be the easiest of the Bowser Castles. There are exactly no obstacles here. All you have to do is race. The only damage you could possibly take would be from somehow falling into the few spots of lava you encounter. There are no fireballs in the lava either. The real challenge here is making some sharp turns and wrecking other karts.
Flower Cup
Mario Circuit 2
Basically proves to be a longer version of the first Mario Circuit, with one big sharp turn and a long jump near the end. If you somehow don't clear the jump, you'll fall to an earlier part of the track, so don't screw up somehow. There are no obstacles besides the grassy and sandy terrain here, so you shouldn't have any problem.
Choco Island 1
First we have a land made of cheese, now an island made of chocolate. Is Nintendo high when they make these games? ^_^ Anyway, the off-terrain is very chunky chocolate and will slow you down big time, so don't drive through it. The road is rather slippery (I guess the chocolate is melting). At some points, you have to drive through puddles of chocolate. It's basically like water. Hopping will prevent the slow-down a little. Not much to explain here.
Ghost Valley 2
A lot of the same here, with a few more holes in the road and some ledges to fall off of. There are still no obstacles, so don't fear. The road is still a little slippery, so get used to braking.
Donut Plains 2
More slippery terrain, very big slow-down in the tall grass, and no obstacles. There are a lot of sharp turns here as well, so get used to your brakes. There is an area where you can fall into the water, but it shouldn't be much of a problem.
Lightning Cup
Bowser Castle 2
If you never played this track, you may do rather poorly. There are a lot of alternate routes, and some are actually dead ends. Pay extra careful attention to your little map in the bottom right-hand corner so you don't take the wrong path. No obstacles still, but some lava may get in your way.
Mario Circuit 3
Same as the previous two, but with a VERY sharp turn about halfway into the race. Same obstacles: terrain. There's not much to worry about here.
Koopa Beach 1
Finally! A change of scenary! The first Koopa Beach proves to be much more fun than the second. You encounter shallow and deep water here, so learn their colors immediately (not that hard) to prevent sinking. You must drive through the shallow water constantly, so hopping makes the slow-down amount reduce. There is one patch of grass on a little isle. Simply go around it and you're fine. This track is easy and quite entertaining.
Choco Island 2
More of the chocolately, creamy goodness you love! This is basically the same, except there is a huge "pond" of chocolate you must drive through. You pretty much have no choice but to go right through it, so hop to prevent a lot of slow-down.
Star Cup
Vanilla Lake 1
Something different again (YAY)! This icy track proves to be a little more difficult than the second version in my opinion. It's really short, but you find yourself driving through the snowy slow-down terrain often. The main road is icy, so you'll obviously slip and slide around. You are driving on a frozen lake, so there will naturally be some cracks that you can fall through and sink in deep water. There are also little ice blocks that block your path. As soon as you ram one, they vanish. Try to drive around them, though it can sometimes be difficult.
Bowser Castle 3
Long and boring about explains it. The Extra Track versions of Bowser Castle don't have obstacles, so they prove to be rather easy. They just have may alternate paths, and this one is no exception. There's a lot of route deciding and lava hopping. Just keep an eye on your map and you'll be fine.
Mario Circuit 4
These are getting old if you ask me. Way too similar to Mario Circuit 3, right down to the incredibly sharp turn about half-way through. No obstacles, so its not a challenge here.
Donut Plains 3
One of the very few "annoying" tracks in the Extra Track collection. You have to go across deep water on bridges a few times, and the bridges are cracked up. The first bridge isn't much of the problem, but the second bridge requires you to jump over a gap. However, the GBA version of this track added a speed bump before the gap, so its much easier. This track was much more difficult in its original SNES state, but not as bad now. It's still rather annoying.
Special Cup
Koopa Beach 2
Truly annoying indeed. Makes sense; start a hard cup with a hard track (not to mention ending it with a hard one too). The whole race takes place on one isle, but there is a wall in the middle so you have to race around it. There is tons more grass, which is way too annoying for my taste. At one point, you must drive through shallow water with big blotches of deep water thrown everywhere. If you're going too fast and lose control, you'll most likely fall into them, and its a common occurance. The best I've done is 4th place, and that was after retrying twice.
Ghost Valley 3
The final Boo stage is the hardest of the Boo stages, but not that difficult. There are more holes, ledges, and jumps. That's really about it.
Vanilla Lake 2
This track is, for some reason, too easy. You'd figure it'd be difficult. You have to do a lot of driving through the snow, but the track seems so short and the computer racers do awful here. It is basically a lot of the same from the first Vanilla Lake, but strangely easier. I was lapping people on my second lap!
Rainbow Road
Okay, so you glance at the map. That's it? That's the big finale? What's so hard about that? You begin racing there. The hardest track in MKSC proves its title. The road is very, VERY narrow, wielding absolutely NO railing of any kind. One wrong move and you go flying into space. There are even sharp turns and narrow path ways, with alternate routes! Believe me when I say this: brake and let go of the gas on turns. Do not Power Slide, unless you want to fly. And try your best not to fall off on the narrow bridge with two paths. I did and everytime Lakitu returned me to the track, a racer pushed me back off until I was in 8th. It was so utterly annoying. Practice makes perfect. Good luck on the hardest track of MKSC!
