Gammon's Resurrection

The mist covered the swamplands like a thick wool blanket.  Both moons stood bright and full in the sky, their brilliant reflected light cutting through the low fog.  A night bird pierced the silence with it's strange, plaintive cry.  The sounds of hoof beats chased the bird into the trees.

Five mounted figures raced through the trees.  They skirted pools of fetid water and pushed through thick bracken and brush.  Southward they rode, making their way past hillocks and ponds.  The sounds of the sea began to reach their ears as they rode.

They broke through the trees as the two moons drew closer together.  Felucca, slightly closer, was somewhat larger than Trammel.  The two seemed to draw closer to one another like two ships on a collision course.  Only moments remained before the two moons reached zenith.

"We are running out of time!" shouted Leaf Greenblade.  "We have to have the preparations done before the eclipse!"

Ahead of them a stone altar stood in a large clearing.  The clean marble stones shone with a dim yellowish-green light.  The ground around the shrine was spring-like, with fresh blooming flowers growing alongside fruiting trees.  Even in the middle of the night the flowers stood open to the glow from the sigil of the Shrine of Honor.

"Quickly," ordered Sentinal.  "Loki, we must lay out the body before the shrine."  He jumped off his mount and helped the warrior woman unlash a large chest from the back of her mount.

"Mohawk, place the reagents here," said Raven.  "They must circle the body at the cardinal points."  He pointed at the five points of a Pentacle.  "Executioner's Cap here, Blackmoor here, Bone here, Deadwood here, and Fertile dirt here."  As he talked Raven carefully unfolded a small collapsible table before the shrine and pulled a few items from his backpack.

"Conjugation begins!"  Leaf Greenblade stepped carefully around the shrine and helped Loki place the last piece of Gammon's body beside the others.  He looked up at the two moons as Felucca slowly covered Trammel.  A quick motion to the others and he stepped away from the body to stand behind one of the reagents.  The others quickly took their places as well.

"Occlusion is here!" said Raven.  He lit the large white candle on the table and opened the book.  Reading from the page he chanted the intricate spell.

"Kal Vas An Xen Corp"

Instantly the five reagents sizzled and evaporated into a rising smoke that mingled above Gammon's body in a whirling mist.  It circled as the two moons came together, and as the last sliver of Trammel disappeared behind Felucca the smoke inverted to a spinning funnel and sank into Gammon's chest.

Moments passed and nothing happened.  Loki looked at Sentinal with a quizzical expression.  Mohawk John turned to speak to Raven, but the mage held up his hand.  They all waited.

As they watched Gammon's body they noticed a slight change in skin color.  The gray-green of rotting flesh slowly changed to pale gray.  The severed limbs, placed close to their original point of attachment, quivered slightly as thin tendrils reached from the torso to pierce the exposed tissue of the mutilated flesh.

As more and more of the pulsating pink strands jumped between the pieces they were pulled in tight to the torso and new pink flesh grew filling in the gaps.  The color of his skin moved from gray to white to a soft pink color.  The gaping hole in his chest closed around his heart and sealed itself with new flesh.  Gammon's severed head pulled itself to join with his neck.

Again, moments passed.  Blood pulsed in his veins.  Air filled and emptied his lungs. Hair sprouted from his chest where he had been opened for his heart.  Still the man did not move.

Raven gazed at the twin moons moving slowly apart.  He grimaced and looked to his companions.  They stood as silent and unmoving as he.  He turned to the shrine.

"Gammon," said Raven.  "I honor thee!"  He looked down at the body hopefully.  Nothing happened.  He turned to the others.

"Gammon," said Leaf Greenblade.  "I honor thee."  Still nothing.   Leaf turned to Mohawk John.

"GAMMON!" shouted John.  "I HONOR THEE!!" A tremor passed through the body.

"Gammon," ordered Sentinal.  "I honor thee!"  Again a tremor passed through Gammon's body and a flicker of expression crossed his face.

"Gammon," said Loki as she knelt and put her hand on Gammon's arm.  "I honor thee!"

Gammon's eyes opened and he looked into the midnight sky.  The twin moons slowly moved in their independent directions.  The light of the shrine lit his face dimly, lending it an unearthly tone.  Slowly he sat up.  Loki draped a robe across his shoulders.

"Thank you my friends," said Gammon.  "Now we must find some way to deal with the Silver Knights."

A Lost Soul Wanders

"But I don’t want to take another message," whined Tom Foolery. "They’ll kill me!"

Lena looked up from her spell book. "You’ll do what you are told, coward," she spat, throwing down another rotten executioner’s cap. "I can’t believe this trash you brought." She looked down at the pile of reagents at her feet and shook her head. "That’s what I get for enlisting the help of amateurs."

"Call him what you like," growled Chant Silverleaf. "But don’t group us with that worthless thief." The blue haired bard turned to the wooden wheel before him and turned it another notch. A scream pierced the silence of the cave as skin stretched and tendons groaned. The man on the rack bit his lip fiercely on a whimper and blood flowed down his cheek.

"What happened to this fertile dirt?" asked Lena, turning to the other person in the cavern. "It looks like it has blood in it."

"Perhaps it does," Argent sneered. I had it in my pack when I brought back Gammon’s heart." He tightened a strap on his plate armor and adjusted his cuirass. "When we bring back the master it will not matter."

"You fool!" Lena threw the bloody mud into Argent’s face, spraying the foul smelling substance across his shiny armor. "You may be the one chosen to carry the master’s soul, but I am the one commanded to return it to this world!" She stalked across the stone floor and looked down at Hippieslayer. The warrior looked up at the mage with defiant eyes and a clenched jaw. "I cannot achieve this end with contaminated reagents! Slacken the pulley!"

She pulled a long dagger from her belt and carefully cut into the man’s bare chest. Blood gushed forth from the fighter’s side as a scream choked itself in his throat. The mage’s knife flashed and a white bone came loose. She waved her hand and the wound quickly sealed itself. His side appeared healed, but it had done so with one less rib.

"At least we have one component for the spell." Lena gently placed her treasure on the pedestal.

"Can I kill him now that you…" Chant began. A loud pop interrupted him. Beside the pedestal a man had appeared.

"Milady," said Maar, "I have found them!" A mischievous grin showed his white teeth and youthful dimples. He placed a pouch into her hand. "They were right where you expected them to be. The reaper almost got me, but those spells you taught me worked great."

"My faithful apprentice." Lena opened the pouch and extracted a piece of dead wood and a pile of blackmoor. "You will be a powerful wizard some day."

She placed the items on the pedestal next to the bone, but backed away with her head bowed. The others, all except for the man held by the ropes that once again pulled at his body, quickly followed her lead. A shimmering ghost had appeared on the altar.

"Soon, my master," whispered Lena Inverse. "Soon."

Argent Kills Gammon!

Our guild's first Captain has gone rogue!

Argent and the Silver Knights have gone on a killing spree!  They have slain Gammon and several other guild members.  Join us in bringing Argent back to justice!

It began one night when Gammon discovered all the Virtue and Vanquishing weapons on T-Dan's shrine were missing.  Someone had stolen them!  Because of the nature of the theft, it could only have been done by a guild mate. The only lead was a new guild member by the name of Tom Foolery, seen leaving the tower earlier that day.

A search was instituted for the culprit.  He had been spotted near the bank, and several members were dispatched to bring him in.  After a short chase he was captured and brought to the tower.  After some questioning, Tom Foolery was somehow able to escape his bonds and produce a weapon.  He attacked several guild members before he was stopped with a fatal blow from Mohawk John.

Over the course of the next week Argent was spotted several times.  He or one of his team members would run up to a guild member, attack without provocation and escape into the trees.  They threatened the very tower itself.  The only thing that stood between them and the defeat of the guild was the Wolves.  Captain Dyerseve and his team were instrumental in protecting the rest of the guild from continued attacks from Argent and his Silver Knights.

A breaking point came when Gammon was found murdered in his office.  Captain Dyerseve and the wolves were again there to begin the investigation.  Few clues were found, though, to lead them to the murderers.  During the meeting Argent appeared amidst the members, and dropped a bag containing a grisly clue.

Within the bag were four heads, a heart, and a book.  The book detailed the murders of Gammon, Ciranon, Ghostlight, and a traitor to the Silver Knights; Hippieslayer.  Argent had written that Hippieslayer had tried to protect Gammon at the final moment and was executed as a traitor.  The final note within the pages was that by taking Gammon's head and heart, Argent had taken the heart of the guild.

In a desperate attempt to track the killers, the thief Tom Foolery was resurrected and questioned thoroughly.  He revealed that the band of murderers were headquartered in the dungeon Deceit. The guild quickly formed company and set out to bring them to justice.

While the guild fought their way past uncounted undead, Captain Dyerseve crept past in the shadows.  With unparalleled stealth he stole up to Argent and brought him low with a single powerful spell.  Quickly the rest of the guild came in behind him and battled the rest of the band, including two fierce dragons and the heretofore uninvolved enchantress Lena Inverse.

But what of Gammon?  With his head and heart removed from his body there is no known way to return him to the land of the living.  And what of Lena?  How is she involved?  These are questions unanswered as of yet...

 A Legend Passes The Sword!

It is a sad day for our guild. Our valiant leader is passing from this world. Due to pressures of the Realm of Lights, T-Dan must leave our noble cause. He will be missed greatly by many in our guild as well as many without. He leaves behind a legacy that will be impossible to duplicate, and difficult to fill.

T-Dan has left the future of the guild in my hands. With your help, I hope to uphold the virtues and traditions we have come to love.
