The Answer Is: Bigger Is Better!
Software manufacturers evidently have the impression that our machines have limitless storage capacity. How many times have you read on the label of a program you really wanted, Requires 130mb free space on your hard drive, and you didn't have the space?
If you have recently purchased a computer, you probably got anywhere between 3.4gb and 14gb. In this case you are ok for now unless you use your machine exclusively for games. The new games have exceptional graphics and almost perfect quality and realism. But they take up loads of hard drive space.
If any of you have older machines like me, you definitely need a bigger hard drive. My machine came with a 850mb hard drive. Windows 95 takes up a good chunk of that just for the operating system. Windows also wants a chunk of your hard drive to use for its swap files. It nees a place to put things while it is working on something else. A good indicator is: Double-Click the MY COMPUTER icon, then click on the C drive, In the bottom right border of the window it will tell you how much free space you have. You should maintain at least 100mb of free space for Windows to use. If you have much less than this you will notice decreased performance in your machine.
The only way to increase your free space is to delete some of the stuff you already have on it.
If you are like most people, all your stuff is important and you can't live without it. In that case, you need a bigger hard drive.
You can replace your hard drive, or you can add a second drive if you have the physical space inside your computer.
Hard Drive prices have dropped drastically as the drives have gotten larger. The larger capacity for the smaller investment makes replacing your hard drive very affordable.
