"If I Were to Dream"

C.J. Ingerson
12/08/98

Verse 1
********

What could I as a mortal
dream that could come true
which window or church's portal
could I look out and see you?

Verse 2
********

Ah the dreams of mere men
sometimes so short of vision
nothing like the kings when
they saw nations from prison.

Verse 3
********

Yes we are trapped in wisdom
some of ours and some of others
not merely to think of a kingdom
to share with sisters and brothers.

Verse 4
********

Therefore do we go to sleep
at night to restless dreams
following our minds like sheep
bleating, crying, and screams.

Verse 5
********

Yet when we look at the great
those who tower above all others
who kept their destiny with fate
dreamed in the day with open shutters.

Verse 6
********

Who are we in this thing called
dreamers of the day or night
do we stand alone or appalled
are we alive in darkness or light?

Verse 7
********

If I were to share my dream now
it would be in the daytime done
there would be others there somehow
it would be exciting, a day to be won.

Verse 8
********

Oh Father where do we men grow old
dreaming in the nighttime in secret
while wanting to be a knight bold
and live a life without any regret.

Verse 9
********

Tell me now of my dream today
that I can love everyone I meet
never ashamed in any man's way
I would offer the beggar my seat.

Verse 10
********

But would you allow me this to be
for my wishes become my goals
and all my dreams I'm able to see
in each I get to play all the roles.

Verse 11
********

Now if I were to dream for you
which you know is not allowed
it would be for a love that is true
the Masters footsteps be followed.

Verse 12
********

Heavenly Fathers love shines down
from the stars and sheds the light
of love upon all those with now
the dreams and wishes now bright.

Verse 13
********

If I were to dream, my daughter
my son, my sister, my brother
my father, or now for my mother
it would be for you or another.

Verse 14
********

Never for me, I lived my dream
I've known the highs of the test
learned always to play for the team
the journey now is always the best.

Verse 15
********

And a mortal just now in this time
I've learned to love myself and others
most often to those in need more kind
for all the Earth's children are our Fathers.

Verse 16
********

So dream if you desire in the night
or take the risk and dream in the day
remember wherever you pick this sight
you'll have to learn your price to pay.

Verse 17
*******

Now with all of this said I'll end
dreamers of the day live on and on
their honor no ones needs to defend
this now I'll leave you to ponder upon.
