"To Endure"

C.J. Ingerson
3/3/99

Verse 1
********

Very early in life
we are sometimes taught
all about difficulty and strife
as children we're caught;
with our hands in cookie jars
where they certainly don't belong
or with bubble gum in cars
then we scream loud and strong.

Verse 2
********

But it is all a part of learning
to be able to grow and become
that faraway look just yearning
to grow older than they are some;
for once they begin on the path
to endure to the end is in the plan book
being able to learn from another's wrath
and be better for the way correction took.

Verse 3
*******

To endure is not always unkind
it is a pleasure to be around the ones
who are nice but still I toe the line
to be obedient like daughters and sons;
but to endure means to endure what
in this test of mortal probation today
the temptations of Satan or not
maybe it is to just do what we say?
