"The Dreams of Sweetness"

cji
3/l6/99

Verse 1
********

Many I've known
do not know of a dream
to sleep in the sweetness
of a loving home
or with a loving partner;
mostly they know
of the subtle abuse
they have to take.

Verse 2
********

It isn't because it is right
yet it has to do with agency;
for lest we keep someone
from committing a crime
in removing the sweetness
of a loving home
we would also take
their agency too.

Verse 3
********

We cannot even judge
what some do
unless it is beyond reason
and clearly beyond
both the scope
and intent of law
to protect and innocent
child or other.

Verse 4
********

So while some say,
"Sweet dreams, my love."
others know only the sadness
of rejection and use
at the hands of one
who should know better.

Verse 5
********

Thus mercy for the abused
will not rob justice
of those caught
within such meager
behavior to rule
with un-righteous dominion
over another's right
to the sweet dreams
of a child
in the safety
of a sacred home.

Verse 6
********

So when you see
the frightened look
feigned as happiness
or even acceptance
don't ever deceive yourself
in believing their are some
who have sweet dreams;
which are so hard to find.
