"When
are you going to get that violinist back?" People began to ask that question
shortly after Bucky Pizzarelli's DJANGO concert at Bridgewater, and the cry was
renewed after they appeared months later in Morristown.
"That violinist" is Michéle Ramo, and an excellent jazz violinist he is indeed. But what makes that question so intriguing is that the violin is not his primary instrument. The May issue of Just Jazz Guitar has him featured with his trusty 6-string guitar, as well as his new 7-string instrument.
He'll play all three at Watchung on Friday evening, March 7, demonstrating why Bucky is so enthusiastic about his playing. "Ramo is the real thing!" he exclaims, and that praise covers all the instruments.
To allow more solo time on the violin (he can't, after all, accompany himself) he's asked jazz pianist Russ Kassoff to join him, along with vocalist Heidi Hepler, a former Miss Michigan. "Hepler and Ramo don't play music," writes one of many effusive reviewers, "they celebrate music."
"Words can't express their sound," writes another. So you'll have to come out personally to their Watchung debut.
Quite a lot for only $12.
