Not only does Mark include Traditional Judaic folksongs, he has written songs of satire on social and political news, presidential politics, and world events. His humor is biting and also hilarious.
Mark Levy has been researching, collecting and performing Jewish music for 20 years. He has traveled the country and abroad bringing Yiddish and Ladino (Sephardic) songs and programs to his delighted audiences. He is a klezmer band leader and a soloist.
The Jews n Jazz performance lays its foundations in the old world traditional sounds and moves to America. Including the roots in Afro-American folk, gospel and blues his repertoire represents the history of American Music through such artists as Al Jolson, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw and on into the 20th century greats. He develops his musical history and moves from Dixieland, through ragtime, swing, be-bop and into our own era of fine musicians. Finally Mark celebrates the innovators and immigrants who highlight the history of Jazz. Marks personalized style along with his wit and voice make this a delightful performance you wont want to miss.
