Harmonytryx An All Women A Cappella Ensemble

What is more appealing than the sound of five harmonic voices singing a capella? Harmonytryx is an award-winning combination of quick wit, tightly crafted vocal harmonies, and show-stopping solos. This all-woman a cappella ensemble sings the pop, rock, jazz, folk, and soul favorites everyone loves, then adds something new to begin loving. The combined musical experience of members Erica Cohn, Elena LaRocca Nazzaro, Angela Robinson, Jennifer Starr, and Anne Walsh totals over 90 years, but their gift is in making it all seem effortless.

The Founder, Erica Cohn sings bass and uses her amazing voice to produce percussion vocals. Erica sang bass with the Skidmore College Sonneteers for four years and produced the group's second album. After college, she hit the New Jersey coffeehouse circuit as a singer/guitarist. But not too long after that Erika set out to gather voices for her ideal sound and be able to say, "Look ma, no instruments!" In 1991 Harmonytryx was born and has been acknowledged all over the tri-state area as one of the greatest folk groups around.

Elena LaRocca Nazzaro sings the really high stuff is an award-winning artist and published illustrator and watercolorist. Her voice will move you over and above the other group members with pitch and tone of a pure tenor. She is an active member and frequent soloist at St. Helen's Church in Westfield. Elena prides herself on knowing (practically) every Beatles song ever written, and on her special talent; singing "Half Breed" just like Cher. Her husband, Paul, doubles as Harmonytryx's sound man.

Jennifer Starr is the lead singer who studied vocal performance at the University of Miami School of Music and sang with the Miami Bach Society's Collegium Musicum. She has returned to New Jersey to pursue a degree in Music Education at William Paterson College, but is, in truth, a diva in progress.

Anne Walsh is the baritone of this fine vocal group who like Erica has a flair for vocal percussion. Anne hails from the notorious Walsh family of musical hams of Hull, Mass. She attended the Leland Powers theater school in Boston, and throughout the years has performed with several stock companies and choral societies.

Angela Robinson sang in a little coffee club in the deep south (you’d never guess by her accent), where she crooned country tunes to her fans. Since then, she’s sung the circuit in country, pop, rock, and funk bands to having her "15 minutes" of fame with a 20 piece orchestra. She spends much of her time with her new "Yamaha keyboard" writing tunes for her solo CD. All the while maintaining a vocal studio for young performers, that she started after graduating William Paterson University with a degree in Music Education.

This evening of entertainment is scheduled for Saturday, August 8, 1998 at 8pm at the Watchung Arts Center. Our upper gallery has the perfect acoustics for a sound so strong and melodic. Harmonies and vocal fun will fill the room while the high energy of these fine five ladies will excite and revive you. As always light refreshments will be served and our current art exhibits are on display.
