Folk Musicians Linda Russell and Christa Patton perform
A Sing through History

Linda Russell’s theme of exploring history through music will take you on a musical journey through the Revolutionary War. Linda’s lengthy experience as a National Park Service balladeer gives her a vision and sound that you have not heard before. Often she takes her music to historic sites and although in history the Watchung Arts Center is small, in the history of America, Watchung holds some ties, with Washington Rock and the Indians that once occupied these hills. Her performance begins at 8pm on Saturday, November 14, 1998 but ends someplace back in time.

Linda Russell and Christa Patton accompany themselves on hammered and mountain dulcimers, flute, guitar and harp. This is an extraordinary treat created by only two people. It is a sound that begins in the heart and will have your imagination and sense of patriotism glowing in no time. Through song comes the realization of the struggles and strife of life long ago. Their duo brings to life ballads, marches, drinking songs and dance tunes of earlier times.

Linda Russell has made appearances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and festivals and schools throughout the country, as well as at numerous historical sites. She prides herself on bringing history to you with a feel and sound that help you imagine the history we have.

Linda has recorded eight albums to date, of traditional music of the 18th and 19th centuries. The newest releases are Christmas past and Stephen Foster Civil War Songs, both on Helicon Records.

With Linda will be the multi-instrumental talents of Christa Patton. Christa not only plays many instruments but her voice harmonizes wonderfully with Linda’s, creating a full strong sound. Christa also performs with the New York Ensemble for Early Music and serves as the music director for the New York Renaissance Festival.

Experience history as you have never heard it before. Come see Linda Russell and Christa Patton at the Watchung Arts Center on Saturday, November 14th at 8pm.
