Spook Handy weaves the musical influence of folk, blues,
bluegrass and rock into a timely and pertinent message for the new millennium-
that we re all her to live, love and learn- and this can be done in a fun and
fulfilling way.
Spook has acquired a reputation for making his performances intimate experiences for the audiences to long remember. That coupled with lively interplay of Spook s singing, acoustic guitar picking and harmonica playing have brought him much recognition:
In 1993, Spook was named best folk artist by Aquarian
Weekly.
In 1996, the East Coast Rocker chose his debut CD Freedom Is Your Destiny as a Top Ten Folk Album.
In 1997, Spook s cover of the Donovan song Colours was chosen as track one of the Acoustic Rainbow an internationally distributed folk music sampler put out by PoetMan Records of Lexington, Kentucky. Consequently, Spook s songs are receiving airplay on hundreds of radio stations.
In 1998, Spook was selected to perform and MC the New Folk Showcase at the New Jersey Folk Festival.
In 2001, Spook released his second and third CD s, Breakfast at Bill s (a full band recording) and Breakfast by Myself ( an unplugged solo album). They have already been receiving ample airplay and positive reviews.
Whether true stories or dreamed up fantasies, comically light in nature or deeply insightful, Spool s music has a way of touching and nurturing the human spirit. Amusing anecdotes and spontaneous interaction with audience members further enhance a feeling of listener involvement.
