The
Unique Vision Photographic Workshop invites you to attend a talk and slide show
of the photographs of
André Kertész.
Presented by Robert Gurbo, curator and lecturer of the Kertész Foundation
The wildly creative and
often volatile photographs by André Kertész will b
e
the subject of a slide presentation and talk at the Watchung Arts Center on
Sunday, April 28 at 2:30pm.
Kertész is recognized as a major force in photography in the period from 1925 to his death in 1985. Yet, in his time, he struggled for acceptance by the photographic and artistic establishment, and the resulting bitterness and resentment lingered and influenced his work.
Robert Gurbo, host of the lecture, worked closely with André Kertész for the last eight years of his life, and has studied and curated Kertész' photographs since his death. Gurbo, who knew Kertész and his family intimately, will share rare insights, and relate the "psychodrama of Kertész's life" to the photographs he produced.
Gurbo has spent 17 years organizing an archive of Kertész' work and is in the process of assembling a major retrospective. Mr. Gurbo has authored many articles about the artist and is a frequent lecturer and guest curator.
In addition to slides, Gurbo will bring a small group of important prints of Kertész' work, and may also bring a vintage print.
This meeting will be informal in nature, and Mr. Gurbo will invite discussion and comment. Suggested donation $5.
