Nancy Nelson Sings from the HeartThe Diva Series is please to bring you Nancy Nelson on Friday, March 19th at 8pm. Nancy has played for the Watchung Arts Center for several years now and is always a treat. Her singing is so fine and clear, and she has a jazz feel for rhythm. Nancy Nelson grew up in Summit, studied piano and sang in school musicals and church choirs from a very early age. She listened to jazz and began singing with local musicians in the 60s. She has sung with such greats as: Gene Krupa, Doc Cheatham, Dick Wellstood, Hank Jones, Ruby Braff and Bobby Rosengarten. Nancy sings regularly as a choir member for the Basking Ridge Presbyterian church and also teaches piano. She currently resides in Bernardsville.
Nancy performs locally at jazz clubs is always a feature at the Newport Jazz Festival. Named "Vocalist of the year" by Playboy Jazz and Pop Poll she is a remarkable singer with an amazing range to her mezzo soprano. Nancys repertoire includes popular standards and little known gems. She was trained as classical musician and has retained the flow and beauty of this love. She selects work and composes them so that the songs are have emotion and depth.
With Nancy will be the distinguished piano playing of Keith Ignham. Keith also has a list of honors to his name and as a duo they are so well blended that you will be astonished or as one jazz critic said, "youll find this to be a truly breathtaking experience."
