The stylish jazz Pianist/Singer Ronny Whyte
Ronny Whyte is a consummate pianist as well as being a sophisticated and talented singer. He has a distinctive style, which is stylish and expressive. His voice is said to be "as soft as velvet" while his interpretations give his performance a theatrical feel. Ronny Whyte has a standing gig at the Ruga, an upscale restaurant-bar in Oakland. This opportunity is a far cry from the glittering avenues of Manhattan where he often played in jazz clubs and hotel piano bars but he is drawn to New Jersey. His rendition of "Jersey Bounce" will convince you of his attraction.
Ronny Whyte is not only known throughout the Tri-state area but also has performed and is recognized internationally. He is a jazz songwriter and has made guest appearances with the symphony playing an exquisite arrangement of "Porgy & Bess". Ronnys talents also include playing diverse roles in theater productions of "A Midsummer Nights Dream", Joey in "Pal Joey" and playwriting. Mr. Whytes ninth album, All in a Nights Work, was selected Jazz Album of the Week by the New York Times. Being constantly on the job, he has a new CD out, "Whyte Wolf" which pays tribute to Tommy Wolf who wrote such tunes as, "Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most" and "Ballad of the Sad Young Men".
Ronny works with bassist Boots Maleson who helps him "stretch out". Boots Maleson demonstrates what a fine bassist can add to the rich, pleasing voice of Ronny Whyte. They play off one another, creating a sound that is both rich and solid. The mix of music includes bebop, swing and reharmonized versions of ballads. Ronny is constantly exploring and revitalizing songs of old, giving them a new life with a different feel. Youll enjoy his rendition of "Loads of Love" or "Getting to Know You".
