Concert: Saturday, July 18th at 8pm.

Jazz Vocalist with a flair
Giacomo Gates and his trio

Giacomo Gates has many talents, he is a fine lyricist who has an amazing voice and presentation which is fabulous. His voice is a deep, rich baritone with a swing. Giacomo has been singing in jazz clubs and festivals all over the Northeast. He has a natural rapport with an audience and scat sings like you won’t believe. Mary Kunz of Buffalo News calls Gates the human synthesizer as he imitates musical instruments such as bass, flute, drum and trombone.

Gates’ solo of Take Five is smooth and compelling. His repertoire is extremely eclectic, finding songs seldom performed. He covers a broad range of styles from bebop to blues and ballads. His phrasing and tempo are up beat and his shifts in tone are so pure. He is truly a superb improviser with technical control Giacomo Gates has the ability to relate to children as well as adults through intricate lyrics and his heartfelt solos. He is not only a fine musician but also a lecturer on the seminar and workshop circuit. Gates gives a impressive performance.

Brain Trainor on piano offers fine improvisation while Dave Ruffles plays a very smooth bass. Both will be backing Giacomo Gates and at the same time bringing their own interpretations to the sound. This wonderful evening is presented to you by the Watchung Arts Center on Saturday, July 18th at 8pm. Tickets are only $10 which includes light refreshments and art exhibits within our building.
