Jazz Vocalist Roseanna Vitro at the Watchung Arts Center |
|
Roseanna Vitro brings a wealth of swing, melodic improvisation and heartfelt story-telling to the jazz idiom. She combines a vibrant energy and spirit with soulful Texan roots to produce a unique sound and style. With six distinctive recordings her reputation as a scat singing, gutsy and passionate vocalist is impressive. Her most recent "Catchin Some Rays: The Music of Ray Charles" showcases Roseannas superb voice in a bluesy sound matched by a top notch backup band including Ken Werner, Mon Cinelu, Eddie Henderson and David "Fathead" Newman.
Growing up in Texas Roseanna was exposed to Gospel, Soul and Rhythm & Blues. Working with Arnett Cobb and vocalist Roy Sullenger Roseanna was encouraged to sing her heart out. She eventually found herself in New York singing and sharing the stage with such greats as Oscar Peterson, Tommy Flanagan and Joe Williams. After arriving in New York Roseanna went on the road with Lionel Hampton, appeared at Town Hall with Steve Allen, the Dallas Museum Art Festival with George Coleman performing in top jazz venues with an array of jazz luminaries.
While performing and traveling, Roseanna studied classical voice, jazz technique and piano. Learning from those who have come before, Roseanna Vitro perfected a sound that is rich and elegant. She is a first rate improviser, who embellishes melodies with a swing. Her sense of timing and phrasing come from experience bringing a versatility and power to her no-nonsense voice.
Roseanna Vitro will be leading off the Watchung Arts Centers "Imaging of Aging" October Celebration with her concert on Friday, October 3 at 8pm. Tickets are only $10 which includes light refreshments. Reservations are recommended for our Saturday performances and can be made by calling (908) 753-0190.
