The Magic of Movie Music with Florence Lazzeri and Bel Musica
Florence Lazzeri and her musical ensemble, Bel Musica returns once again to the Watchung Arts Center with a new program, The Magic of Movie Music on Sunday, October 18th, 1998 at 3pm. Also included are the well known piano duo Carolle-Ann Mochernuk and Paul Kueter with baritone, Rick McElhiney. Soprano Lazzeri, returns with a retrospective of memorable music of Hollywood from the advent of the "talkies" to the present. Some of the films represented in this nostalgic revue include Forty-Second Street, Top Hat, Laura, Gigi, A Star is Born and even Titanic. Kueter and Mochernuk are amazing with their four-hands arrangement of the 1940s "Warsaw Concerto" and from "Chariots of Fire".
Lazzeri has performed throughout New Jersey with her troupe and as soloist on the concert, operatic, musical theater and cabaret stage. Residing in Scotch Plains, Florence has sung major operatic roles in La Bohmem, Tosca, Carmen and Di Fledermaus. The ease and flow of her singing reflects many years of performing on cruise ships.
Paul Kueter performed at Carnegie Hall, Town Hall and Merkin Hall in New York and has appeared as piano soloist with orchestras throughout the area. Paul has composed ballet scores, piano pieces and arranged extensively for piano.
Carolle-Ann Mochernuk is on the music faculty at Douglas College and Kean College and also teaches privately in her North Plainfield studio. Carrolle-Ann debuted in New Yorks Town Hall and has played in Europe, Canada and even in the Queen Elizabeth Hall. She has a fine touch and quite a flair. Carolle-Ann and her husband, Paul have just finished a CD piano duo entitled, "Five Broadway Greats".
Baritone Rick McElhiney, a resident of Edison, has toured with the national company of My Fair Lady and appeared on Broadway in The King of Schmorres. He performs at Plays in the Park for New Jersey and title roles in Man of La Mancha, Sweeney Todd, The Music Man and Pippin. Equally at home in oratorio and concert singing, McElhiney brings a deep and sensuous sound to this troupe.
