Series to debut Sunday, November 1, 1998
with the Acclaimed Miro' String Quartet
The Watchung Arts Center presents, "Chamber Music in the Hills" a series of Chamber Music concerts to be held in an elegant private home, will debut on Sunday, November 1st with the acclaimed Miro' String Quartet, Quartet-in-Residence at The Juilliard school of Music. Their program is a delight: A Haydn String Quartet in D Major, Op.76, No.5 and Mendelssohn String Quartet in F Minor, Op.80. Violist Ruth Kahn Siderman will join the Quartet for the Dvorak Quintet in E Flat Major.
The afternoon Musical Soiree' will begin at 2:00 PM with an elegant reception to follow. Tickets for the series are $45 per person and are limited to the first 40 respondents. "Chamber Music in the Hills " is a fundraiser for the benefit of the Watchung Arts Center, an active non profit Arts Center in Watchung, New Jersey. "We are very excited about this unique opportunity for lovers of Chamber music to enjoy renowned artists in an intimate, elegant, private setting," explained Ruth Kahn Siderman, a member of the Watchung Arts Center and coordinator of the Classical Music Series for the Center over the past three years. Ms. Siderman will also be featured as the special guest violist for this premier event of the series. "We're especially thrilled to have the exceptional Miro' String Quartet debut our series." she added.
The Miro' String Quartet has rapidly established itself as one of the most sought after young American ensembles, capturing both the First and Grand Prizes at the Fischoff National Music competition. They were awarded an American Tour, including a debut concert at Chicago's Orchestra Hall. They have performed numerous concerts to critical acclaim across the nation from Cape Cod to San Francisco, appearing at such festivals as Aspen and Norfolk, and at such institutions as the Cleveland Institute, Yale University and The Juilliard School. They have been heard live on nationally broadcast radio performances as part of Chicago's Dame Myra Hess Series. At the invitation of Isaac Stern, The Miro' performed in a live broadcast at the Jerusalem Music Centre in Israel and were taped for an upcoming PBS special to be aired in the United States in the Spring 1999. The Quartet, described by the Miami Herald as "brilliant!" and by the Strad as "captivating audiences with their wonderfully communicative accounts of Beethoven, Dvorak and Shostakovitch. They will undoubtedly make their mark in the world of Chamber Music."
The Miro' Quartet has the distinguished honor of being the quartet in residence at The Juilliard School. The Watchung Arts Center is bringing you the finest musicians, in a setting that respects both the musicians and their audience.
