The Booglerizers |
CONCERT: Friday, May 21, 1999
at 8 PM |
On Friday, May 21 at 8:00pm, the Watchung Arts Center presents fine musicianship Their name, the Booglerizers, suggests a certain style, they are well known for their diversity of music and showmanship. Their audience participation songs encourage many to be a part of the act. Unlike most bands, they will visually delight you with a mastery of kazoo, scrub-board, wash-tub, and garden hose. Add to all of this a wonderful blend of harmonies and unique instrumentation and you've got dynamic entertainment for any occasion!
This five-piece band mixes finger-style guitar with mandolin and arch-top slide, leaving room for some tuba-driven harmonica and tops it all off with a sweet old time clarinet. Their vocalists have harmonized, crooned and growled together for over twenty year, and at the bottom of the sound is the tuba which can be regal and downright flatulent. The Booglerizers have added a seasoned percussionist who plays brushed snare and washboard on acoustic gigs, and full drums on their occasional electric gigs.
Whether they play early country blues, ballads, ragtime, New Orleans style, jugband or R&B, it is all funky and a barrel of fun. Their songwriter, Richard DiPaolo has been crafting songs for over 25 years and combines a sly sense of humor with a knowing take on the state of modern male/female relationships. An accomplished ragtime fingerpicker and slide player , Richard creates a timeless blend of tunes that , while rooted in past musical styles, have a modern feel and eclectic focus.
