There was this spaceship that landed on Venus .....

... and when the astronauts got out they went up to the first creature they saw and said, "Take me to your leader."

The little creature -- and it was a strange little creature, too -- for all the inhabitants of Venus were covered with soft brown hair (much like that on a cocker spaniel) with, growing out of some part of their bodies, a mechanical implement, like a screwdriver, a hammer, a slide rule.

The little creature just cocked its screwdriver arm and pointed, "Over there!"

The astronauts went from creature to creature and ALL of them pointed, "Over there!"

Finally the astronauts came to the crest of a hill where there was this silken creature with a hypodermic needle sticking out of its skull, point up. A creature who did not gesture, "Over there!" The astronauts concluded they had gone far enough.

Suppressing a shudder, the head astronaut asked the creature, "Are you their leader?"

"Oh, no!" replied the adorable little thing. "I'm just the Furry With The Syringe On Top."
