What's the deal with internet these days? Or am I just getting really old? And before you answer that, remember - I know where you live! I'm one of those people who've been using the internet for over a decade now, but sometimes I just feel really really behind, remembering when it was so much easier. Back in the day when Hotmail was still considered serious, when chatrooms were innocent fun...and no one knew where you lived.
But now...you have to have your blog, your pictures, your downloading music and movies (does anyone remember the days when you were afraid of getting in trouble for stealing a picture on the net?), your movies on Youtube, your music on Myspace, Wikipedia answers all your questions and now...Facebook. I don't get it. I've got it all (most of it anyway), but I still don't get it... and what's the hype with Facebook? For me it seems more like a step back in time. What's the point really? "Woo-hoo, look at me, I have a million friends that I don't know, or even want to know, but I've got 'em right here on my list".
And don't get me started on the availability. One of my friends just closed down her blog because of some person's anonymous comments. It's like the internet makes people act worse than if they were on holiday in Ibiza (or Vegas if you want). Just because you don't know that other person you're allowed to act like an complete ass. And now with the new technology, you don't know what's waiting for you on the other side. "So and so wants to show you his/her webcam. Do you want to accept?" Accept. What will I get? Someone on the other side of the world staring down at his keyboard with his twenty friends standing around, looking fascinated, or will you get someone showing you his already mentioned body part. "You got a phone call. Do you wanna answer?" Who's on the other side? Someone who will sing to you, or someone who'll shout bad things?
For me, it's all about downsizing right now. All the sites that you're a member of because someone you don't know asked you to join. Undo. The people you never talk to in your address book? Delete. "Someone you don't know wants to add you to his/her list so that can see when you're online and ask your damn ASL every freaking time you are, because they don't even bother to remember that. Do you want to accept?" No thanks. From now on, if you want to be my "friend", you'll have to earn it! Even Peyton turned off her webcam for godsake!
My friend sent me a text and asked me to go with him to a place about 30 mins from here, so I did. We had lunch, sushi of course, and then I asked him if he'd walk around the town center with me when the sun was shining and all, so he did. It's quite beautiful place, but there's no life any more. Everything's move to the mall. The store windows are empty, and everythings looks run down. Anyway...after walking around we were supposed to go to the mall, but either of felt like it. Some discussions later we ended up there anyway, and there's so much new stuff for fall that I really want, that's probably the only good thing about fall...more shopping. I probably don't have to tell you how exhausted I was when I finally got back home?! :) (The pic is my friend setting up his mobile office at a café (after finishing his Ice Latte), just like Alex )
