Christi stood in front of the Hardy's house, and almost ran back to her car. She had to face Matt , she thought, as she finally made it to the front door. She knocked, and waited for what seemed forever, when Mr. Hardy answered the door. "Is Matt home?" She asked. He turned around without responding and walked away. A few moments later a hung over Matt appears at the screen door. "Will you come out on the porch?" She asks, as she opens the screen door. He sighs, and steps out on the porch. He walks past her and sits on the steps. He wondered if he looked as awful as he felf. " Why?" Was the only thing he could get out. He just wanted to know why. "Can we go for a walk, get away from the house?" She asked, as she stepped into the direction of the tall grassy field. He just stares at her and sits. "OK, I guess we will talk here." She says, as she stands in front of him. "So, how long have you been seeing him?" Matt asks, as he puts on sunglasses. The day was too bright, he thought. "Matt sweetie..." She started, only to be cut off by Matt. "How long and Why?" He snapped at her. "Your mother said you were with your dad. Was she lying for you?" "She had no idea, Matt." She said, as she sat next to him on the steps. Matt stands, not wanting to be near her. "I told you I love you, wasn't that what you wanted to hear?" He turns away from her, and rubs the tear off his cheek. He didn't want her to see how this affected him. "We were together for a long time, and just now you say those words. They appear almost empty to me. I feel like I had to force you to say them. Jeremy said them on the first night we were together." Christi says as Matt turns and looks at her darkly. "So that's his name. You never answered me Christi." He said, and stepped onto the porch behind her. "A few months I guess. He's been here for me when you haven't. I guess I wasn't cut out for your life. " She said, and stood up. "I love you still, I do. It's just not enough to hold anything together." Jeff walked out onto the porch. "Matt, you want to go to the hospital with me??" He says, as he walks past Christi. "Oh, how is your sister doing?" Christi asks Jeff. "Sure!" Matt says, and runs past her and hops into Jeff's car. They speed off, leaving Christi watching them. "I guess I deserved that." She says, knowing that that would be the last time she would ever see Matt again. ------------------ Rachel decided to name off her favorites, to see if she could remember. My favorite color is green, animal deer, she thought. NO, that's not my favorite animal...think think think. Hmmmm, I can't remember, she thought. No voices today. Do I have to think to hear, she wondered. I don't want to lie here anymore, move damn it, she thought. Concentrate, move, fingers, toes, WIGGLE. ------------ "Her hand moved!!" Adam yelled, as he held her hand. "Baby, do it again!! She did it again!!" Jess ran out the door to get a nurse. She hoped this was a beginning to Rachel's recovery. She returned with the nurse, hoping that she would give them some good news. The nurse checked Rachel over, checked the monitors, checked the graphs and then left the room. She came back a few moments later with a doctor, who repeated the same methods as the nurse. "Are you sure she moved??" The doctor questioned him. "The graph that shows her brain waves, says nothing happened." "I know what I saw and felt. She moved." Adam said with a furrowed brow. "You're machines could be wrong. "Are you calling him a liar??" Jess asked, as the door opened and Chris entered the room. The doctor shook his head no. "What's wrong?" Chris asked. "She moved!!" Adam and Jess responded at the same time. "If anything else happens, let us know." The nurse says, as he and the doctor leave the room. Adam flips them off. "I hate this place." He says, as he kisses Rachel's hand. "Should we celebrate?" Chris asks Adam. Adam shakes his head. " No, we might jinx it." He says laughing. Matt and Jeff enter the room. Jeff kisses Rachel's cheek and sits next to her. "We saw the coats leaving the room, what's up?" Matt asked, as he pushed Rachel's bangs back from her forehead. "She moved." Adam responded with a huge smile. ------------------------------ Trendi opened the door to the apartment, after the doorbell had rang for the tenth time. David stood there behind a few dozen roses hoping to see Beth. Trendi started to laugh at him as she took one of the roses for herself. "Do you actually think roses will get her back?" She asked laughing. "Besides, she's not here." She said, as she picked up her purse off the couch. "I can wait." He said, as he sat on the love seat. "Well, you're going to have to wait a long time. She just left on a plane to go to North Carolina." Trendi says, as she turns out the light and leaves. David sits in the darkness with the flowers. "I can wait." He says again, and sits the flowers on the table. ------------------- Richard lay his head on the desk as he sat reviewing Merigold's work. She was not a reporter, he thought. While she was good at some things, she sucked at others. Lily had been with them a short while, and she was blowing Meri away. Some of Meri's work was probably going to go in the garbage. "Rich are you OK?" Meri asked, as she walked up to his desk with more work for him to edit. "I'm fine, fine." He says, as he starts to go through the papers she just gave him. He stares at it, and then starts to laugh. He couldn't take it anymore. "OH God, I wish Rachel was here." "Me too. So, how is my work? Did you look at the pictures, I'm not to good with the camera." Meri says, as she hands him blurry pictures. She looks at the other work he had already edited. "Wow, you sure did take out a lot. Was it that bad?" She asks. Rich starts to laugh even more than before. "That's not funny!!" She says, and then looks at Lily's work. "Wow she's good." "Your work sucks.. it's bad. It stinks, it's so smelly." Rich says through fits of giggles. "What?" She asks, not believing she heard him right. He tries to straighten up and be serious, something he always has a hard time doing. " Your work isn't up to par." He says. Meri stares at him with tears in her eyes. Lily walks in with their food. She hands Meri her food, and Meri runs out, dropping the food in the trash. Meri was no longer hungry. "What's wrong with her?" Lily asks. Richard puts some fries in his mouth and responds. "She can't take criticism." He shrugs, and goes back to looking at the work. --------------- Chris sat out in the Hardy's back yard, watching some of the others play on the trampoline. His lap top in front of him, he started to check e-mail. He hated forwards, half of what he got were forwards. He started to delete most of mail, when Jess came outside with a tray of drinks. Jess starts to laugh as she watches Adam spear Matt on the trampoline. " They are so crazy!" She says, of Matt and Adam. It was good to see Adam out and actually smiling. Rachel was getting better, and everyone knew it.The respirator was at ten per cent, and she was only improving. "I have missed everyone." Jess says to Chris, as she sits across from him. "They are your friends too." Chris says, as he looks up from his computer. "Just because we aren't together, doesn't mean you can't still be friends with them." He turns to watch his friends on the trampoline. "Where's Michelle?" Matt asks, as he bounces off the trampoline in front of them. "We broke up." Chris says, as he turns off his computer. There was one piece of mail left that he was going to respond to. He hoped he wouldn't forget later. "Are you two back together?" Matt asks, as he hops back up onto the trampoline. "No." Jess and Chris respond in unison. A sweaty Adam walks over to the table and gets a glass of Coke. "So, since Michelle is out of the picture, is anyone in?" Adam asks, as he looks from Jess to Chris. "No!"Jess says laughing. "Didn't Matt just ask that question??" "Not like Matt did." Chris says laughing. "I think I am going back to the hospital. I hope I didn't miss out on anything." Adam says, as he steps back into the house. Jess watches him walk inside. "He really loves her doesn't he. " She says with a sigh. "Yeah, he does." Chris says, and thinks to himself. It's so much better than being confused about two different women. "I'm hungry." Chris says, and stands up to go into the kitchen. "Let's go to Waffle House, or IHOP. I'm in the mood for eggs." She says to Chris. "Dutch treat." He smiles at her and accepts the invitation. He doubted there was any food in the Hardy's house anyway. Rachel hadn't been there to shop, and the brothers always ate out. -------- Matt, Amy and Jeff continue wrestling on the trampoline, and watch as Jess and Chris leave. Each of them coming up with their own conclusion, and all of them wrong. ----------- The next morning, Matt wakes up with Amy's feet in his face. They had gone to bed and Amy had talked them to sleep. They had talked about everything, including Matt's now defunct relationship with Christi. He needed a shower, he thought. He stepped out of the bed, onto the hard cold wood floor. Matt had forgotten Jeff was in the room too, and almost stepped on him. He jumped over him, and made a quick get away for the shower. Maybe he could get the hot water first today, he thought. ---------- Amy lay quietly for a few minutes, and then heard the shower turn on. "Jeff, are you awake?" She asks in a whisper. "No, leave me alone." Jeff responds, and rolls onto his stomach. Amy hops over him, and leaves the room. Maybe it wasn't too late to join Matt, she thought. Finding a towel, she joins Matt and the hot water. ------------ Jeff lay on the floor wondering about Beth. Before Amy had woken him up, he had been having a really nice dream. He missed her, and it wasn't her fault Michelle had a black cloud over her. Maybe when he got up he would call her. He rolled onto his side, and tried to fall back to sleep. He yawned, and then sat up. He looked on the bed, and then laid back down. He heard the shower running, and realized where Amy and Matt had gone. They had always had an off and on relationship. He wondered if it was now on again. Amy was cool, he thought. He hated relationships, it was always easier to be alone. It was less heartache really. He probably really messed up with Beth, he thought. He may have actually given in and dated her, maybe it was for the best they don't talk anymore. He had fallen for her the first time he had seen her. And Beth was right really, if Michelle had not come into his life, they would have never have met. He sighed, and got off the floor. His bed felt much better than the floor. He pulled the blanket around him, and made it back to the room to hear his phone ringing. "Jeff, it's Beth." Beth said, as she heard his voice. "Hey, I thought I would never hear your voice again." He said, as he fell onto the bed. He was so happy to hear her voice. "Where are you? I hear a lot of people. I am so sorry I hung up on you." "Jeff, it's ok. I'm at the airport in Memphis. I am on my way there to visit Rachel, so you will be seeing me soon." She says laughing. "Is David coming with you?" He asks, hoping she says no. "David?? Who's David?" She asks. "David." He says, and then gets what she is saying. "I don't know a David. I have three hours to hang out here. I might go find Elvis' home. Can you pick me up when I get there?? Oh, and can you find me a Bed and Breakfast?? Am I asking too much of you? " Beth asks with a giggle. "I'll pick you up..that's fine with me." He says laughing. " And you can stay here, everyone else is. It's just like a Bed and Breakfast, only without the food!" Matt walks into his room with a towel on. "Who all is staying there?" she asks "Is Michelle?" "No, I haven't seen her since she ran out of the hospital." Jeff said, as he watched his brother steal one of his shirts to wear. "So, basically everyone but her. The house has a revolving door!: Matt looks at his watch, as if to say hurry up. Jeff promises to pick her up, and they hang up. "Was that Beth??" Matt asks, as he throws his brother a shirt to wear. "Yes, she's on her way to town. How did you know it was her?" Jeff asks Matt. "You have that goggly grin on your face." Matt laughs. Jeff sighs. "So, are you and Amy back together?" He asks, as he ties his shoes. "No, she says I snore to loud." Matt says, as he leaves the room laughing. ------------------- Michelle sat in her car at the hospital debating on going in or not. Rachel was her friend, but she knew Chris and Jess were there. They had pulled up only seconds before she had. They had walked in together arm in arm. If they weren't back together, they soon would be, she thought. If he had wanted to go back to Jess, why didn't he say so, she thought. He needed space, like she needed a hole in her head. She turned up the music in her car, hoping it would drown away her thoughts. She closed her eyes, as images of Chris with Jess entered her mind. A tap on the window brought her out of the nightmare. Kurt stood smiling at her, and motioned her to roll down the window. "Hi there, are you going in or are you going to listen to this loud music all day?" Kurt asked, as he watched Matt and Amy enter the building. "Chris just went in there with Jess." Michelle responded. "Really, I thought you two were together." Kurt said with suprise in his voice. "No, he broke up with me, stating he needed space." Michelle said with a bitter laugh. "I don't think I would be welcome in there right now." "Well, we don't have to talk about them do we. Come on and visit Rachel, that's what you are here for right. Don't let Chris see it bothers you that he is with her. Besides, you coming in with me might spark something." Kurt says laughing. She smiles, and gets out of the car. Kurt puts an arm around her and they enter the building. --------------- Brooke walks through the gate with her luggage hoping to see Jeff. She hated the new rules at airports, but with all that has happened in the world, she thought. It was better safe than sorry. She finally spots Jeff sitting with his back to her. She rushes up behind him and puts her hands over his eyes. "BETH!!" He yells, as he catches the scent of her perfume. "I am so happy you are here!!" He says, as he kisses her nose. "Let's get out of here." She says, as he takes her bag, and she grabs hold of his free hand. --------------- It's so loud, Rachel thought. Everything is echoing. So many voices, yesterday I couldn't hear anything, she thought as she tried to not think. Is someone sitting on the bed? Can I actually feel that, she thought. -------------- Adam sat on Rachel's bed, and looked at the wires that connected from the wall to Rachel. He hoped they would soon be gone, he hated to see her this way. The door opened, and Michelle and Kurt entered the room. "This should be interesting." Amy whispered to Matt, as they tried to be invisable. "Hey Michelle, Kurt." Adam says and nods to them. Chris stared at Michelle, then at Kurt. And then he noticed they were holding hands. She works fast, he thought. Michelle went a pasty white, for the first time she really took a good look at Rachel. All the wires, there were so many wires. It was all her fault, she thought. No matter what anyone told her, that was what she was going to believe. She shook free of Kurt's grip, and ran out of the room for what seemed like the hundreth time. Kurt looked at the rest of the people in the room in shock, and then ran out after her.
