"...wow, that girl's got some pipes..." - spectator at gig, Ferndale, Michigan, c. 1994

Music Style: An alternative rock sound with powerful vocals from Dawn Petrilli.  Like the Cowboy Junkies mixed with Jefferson Airplane.

Background: I first met bandleader Sergio Petrilli in 1975.  20 years later we connected and I found he was a bandleader looking for a new bass player.  I auditioned, and joined the band.  Sergio held down guitar and wrote the songs, I played bass, Sergio's brother-in-law Bill (of the Detroit band the 3D Invisibles) held down the drumming while Sergio's future wife Dawn Petrilli delivered killer vocals.  Sergio wrote complex and galloping vocals which gave the band a unique sound.

The undated photo at right shows Dawn at Paycheck's Bar in Hamtramck, Michigan.  Dawn was a double threat, able to use either her vocals or flute skills to bring the house down.

Around 1995 we decided to go our separate ways, although Sergio and Dawn have kept the O.D.'s going to this current day.

Streaming/Downloadable MP3's (the quality of recordings are particularly low on these tracks...):

"Why? Said the Bird" (Live) (1994):. This song only had a few chords, but Dawn's singing really make the song move along
"Long Distance Operator" (Live) (1994):
A rare blues song by the O.D.'s. Dawn's vocals carry the song, I played a blues bass line with some off beat stops and fills.

How were the recordings made?

Both songs above were recorded live in gig settings via a Fostex multitrack tape machine, without a sound person, so they aren't of the highest quality.  I moved these recordings to .WAV files via my ZOOM PS-02 digital recorder and converted them to MP3 format on my laptop.

Where are they now?

The band is still gigging (without me) in the Metro Detroit area.
