        EPISODE GUIDE

               Episode # 40 - Aftermath

Yugi, Tristan, Tea and Joey are running around looking for Pegasus so he can release the soul of Grandpa.  Tea remembers the Secret Chamber and still wonders if it was a dream.  The decide to check it out and they run of with Yugi and Joey trailing behind.  Pegasus is standing in the tower, looking at the soul cards.  He wonders how Yugi beat him and if it was the Power of the Millennium Puzzle.  His Millennium Eye glows and the soul cards become blank.  Mokuba, Kaiba, and Grandpa start to stir as he does this.  Their souls have been freed.  He feels he is being watched and turns around to see Yami Bakura...

Yami Bakura asks if the Millennium Eye can tell Pegasus's future as well.  He lays out seven Duel Monster Cards and begins to tell Pegasus's fortune.  The first card represents his childhood.  Bakura flips it over; Tenderness.  Bakura says that Pegasus's life was filled with love.  It is upside down so it ended in tragedy.  The Next card represents the present and he flips over Mask of Darkness.  Pegasus's outward behavior is masking his true intentions.  Pegasus tries to get him to stop but Yami Bakura flips the next card, his future, Doma, the Angel of Silence.  Yami Bakura says this monster brings death that Pegasus can't escape.  The Millennium Ring begins to glow and each of them send a beam of energy from their Millennium Items.  The Millennium Eye has been weakened from Yugi's duel and Yami Bakura knocks Pegasus to the ground. Yami Bakura says he will collect the seven Millennium Items and with the power, rule the world.  He takes the Millennium Eye and leaves.

As Yugi and his friends are about to go up the tower, a bunch of Pegasus's guards are coming down.  Kemo is carrying a life-less looking Pegasus.  Yugi asks what happened and Croquet explains that Pegasus was attacked by an unknown attacker.  Yugi wonders if he can still free the souls of everyone and rushes up to the room.  Tea finds Pegasus's diary and as she's flipping through the pages she sees the same picture of the blond lady on the wall.  Tea begins to read, "To the King of Duelists that defeats me, why did I create Duel Monsters?  To explain that, I must mention this lady.  Yugi note a card that falls out and that Pegasus seems to be writing to him.

There is a flashback and Pegasus begins narrating the story.  He was a young boy when he met the blond lady, Cynthia.  His father was a business man and he met Cynthia at one of their social parties for the social elite.  They immediately fell in love and told each other their dreams.  Pegasus wanted to become a painter and travel to other countries.  They promise always to be together.  Then the scene switches to their wedding day.  Just as Pegasus is going to slip the rind on her finger, flower petals cover her and she fades away.  Cynthia died when she was 17.  Pegasus was depressed for months until he heard of Egyptian myths that lost souls could be revived.  With the right spells, he could see Cynthia again.

In Egypt, he met a younger version of Shadi.  Shadi warns Pegasus to leave Egypt for he can't fix his broken heart.  Pegasus is intrigued by this stranger and follows him to a staircase leading to a underground chamber.  Without turning around, Shadi tells Pegasus he shouldn't have followed him here.  Two guards grab him and Shadi explains that the only way to leave this place is to be chosen as the owner of a Millennium Item.  Shadi brings him to an engraving with slots for all the Millennium Items, only the Ring, Eye, and Scale remain in their places.  Pegasus begs Shadi to let him go but he explains that Pegasus will be tested by the Millennium Eye.  Shadi says that if the Eye chooses him, his dreams will be fulfilled, and if not, death awaits.  Shadi shoves the Millennium Eye in place and Pegasus has a vision of Cynthia.  She vanishes and Pegasus cries by himself.  Shadi is impressed that the Millennium Eye Chose him and lets him go.  Pegasus now thinks that if he takes over Kaiba Corp, he will have the technology to bring Cynthia's body back and with the Millennium Eye and Puzzle, he would be able to find her soul.

Tea closes the diary.  Joey says that he was a real compassionate guy and all he wanted to do was get Yugi's puzzle to bring back his lost love.  Tea puts the diary away and Yugi notices the blank sol cards on the table.  Yugi wonders if the blank card means Kaiba and the others were set free.  Everyone turns to leave to check on Mokuba.  Yugi begins to leave and puts the cards down.  He heads down the stairs.  Suddenly, Shadi rises from the air and sees the Millennium Puzzle.  He is certain Yugi stole the Eye from Pegasus.  He takes the Millennium Anhk (key) from his chain and places it against Yugi's forehead.  He gives it a turn and enters his mind.

Shadi begins walking though Yugi and notices that there are two rooms.  One door has the eye of Anibus on it and the walls seem defaced.  Shadi enters one room of Yugi's heart and sees toys and an innocent, pure place.  He says this isn't the mind of someone who would steal the Millennium Eye.  He then enters the room with the Eye of Anibus on the door and to his surprise, Yami Yugi is standing there.  He challenges Shadi daring him to enter and intrude his mind.  Shadi thinks to himself that his mind feels like an Egyptian tomb.  Yami wants to know how and why Shadi is in his mind.  Shadi explains that for 3000 years, the Millenium Items have belonged to the royal family.  Seven items, with the power to control the world and countless men have wanted to take them.  Shadi says he's the guardian of the items and is searching for the person that stole Pegasus' Millenium Eye.  Yami Yugi asks if he is a suspect and Shadi says once he searches this room, he will know.  Yami Yugi says that Shadi must find him first and that this is no ordinary game, this is a Game of Darkness.  Shadi says he has no choice to accept and Yami Yugi starts the game by snapping his fingers.  Doors and stairways appear going every direction Shadi sees that this boy's heart is a maze.  Yami Yugi takes a step forward and fades away.

Shadi begins and opens a door.  As he does, brick fall and he moves just in time.  He wonders which door is real and why this mind is so defensive.  He opens another door and sees Yami sitting in a chair.  He enters the room and as he does, the floor falls out.  Shadi grabs on the edge and explains that if he falls into the abyss he will never escape his mind.  Just then a hand grabs Shadi and he looks to see Yugi helping him out of the hole.  Yugi calls to his other self to end the game and they enter the room.

Inside there are enormous stone tablets pictures of Duel Monsters on them. Shadi explains that 3000 years ago in Egypt, magicians used these tablets to summon monsters and play the Shadow Games  But when the magicians were killed, the tablets and the power slept. Later the tablets became part of history books and the origin of Tarot Cards. They are also the original Duel Monsters. Just as Shadi says this, he passes a stone tablet of the Black Magician and it begins to glow. A light appears over Yugi and Shadi's head's blinding them. Then the Black Magician comes to life and points it's staff at them, ready to attack. Shadi says that the Black Magician wants to protect this room and will kill them. Shadi then notices that they are standing on a tablet, the one of the Blue Eyes White Dragon. Shadi thinks that if the monsters have the same powers, Blue Eyes is stronger than the Black Magician. Shadi begins to summon the Blue Eyes until Yugi tells him not to, saying that the Black Magician is his card. He runs over to the Black Magician and says that they didn’t come to cause trouble and asks him to let them go. Shadi is in disbelief that the master of magicians listens to a boy. Shadi then thinks that the other one could be someone...but just then the Black Magician begins to glow and they are now back outside in their own bodies.

Shadi asks Yugi to tell his other self he's sorry that he mistook him as the person that stole the Millenium Eye. He also ran into some "interesting" things while looking for his suspect. Shadi says that Yugi and his other self about them and the Millenium Puzzle and begins to leave. Yugi asks how he knows about the Millenium Puzzle and Shadi says for him to be careful, there is someone else that is looking to get his Millenium Puzzle. Yugi figures it to be Bakura but the Millenium Ring is now gone. Yugi tries to stop him as he goes down the steps, saying there's still a lot he doesn’t know. Just as he disappears, he tells Yugi his name is Shadi and that they will meet again...

Episode Rating (1-10) 8.8  This episode is really good for a filler.  The plot does not move forward.  This episode really helps fill holes in Pegasus's character and the origin of Duel Monsters and the Millennium Eye.  We also met Shadi for the first time.  And we were introduce to the other Millennium Items.  And that the Pharaoh's own Monster listens to little Yugi.  What a great episode.
