Recognitions & Awards

Appreciation was expressed to Greg Roginski for his 6 years of service to the board. Greg is a one-man show for our Membership Committee, keeping our database up-to-date and handling all the mailings over the year. He also does everything we need for our web site, maintains our property map and is currently working on new signage for the Macomb Overlook.

Thanks went to Pat Selby for her first 3 years of service to the board. She served as Secretary and then VP. She offers sound advice for projects and communications. In 2010 she led our Stewardship Committee and attended Open Space Committee meetings as a liaison.

Terry Laesser has served 5 years on the board and has submitted her resignation due to her time limitations. She has been a great help in the education and stewardship areas, providing us with the “ teacher’s perspective” and arranging for student volunteers.

The Rotary’s 2010 Grosse Ile Citizen of the Year Ron Schmaeman was congratulated and recognized for his assistance on stewardship projects. From watering the trees at Intrepid Pond to helping with the buckthorn battles, he and Yi-Chia have been wonderful volunteers on Conservancy projects.

Although she retired from the board last year, Margarete Hasserodt has quietly remained active and we thank her for her continued contributions and efforts. She’s helped with the annual meeting, worked on our plantings at Centennial Farm and Intrepid Pond, and made plant identification tags for the bushes and native plants.

The Grosse Ile Girl Scouts and their coordinator Maribeth Esordi were recognized for their assistance at our annual Earth Day program the last two years. They have been terrific at handling the “Bring One Take One” Toy Exchange. Kids come to the event and head straight to the toy table. The toys left behind are brought to a local homeless shelter.
