Dyno Results

This page will catalogue the dyno results we obtain as the tune of the motor progresses.

27 July 2002

On the 27th of July we took the car to the dyno for the first time with the new engine modifications. We were hopeful that the car would yield between 80 - 85 kW's at the rear wheels. We came away with 100.5 kW's at the wheels at 6400 rpm.

The first run of the day saw the car achieve 94 kW's at the wheels. We then increased the overall trim of the fuel map by 5%, which gave us an increase of 4 kW's to 98 kW's at the wheels. A further increase to 8% saw a further gain in peak power to 100.5 kw's. We then tried an increase to 12% overall trim, which lost us 1.5 kW's, dropping power to 99 kW's. We finally tried 10% overall trim, but were unable to successfully test this setting as we began to experience a breakdown in ignition due to the battery going flat. The culpret was subsequently found to be a poor crimp on an altenator wire. After pulling the spark plugs out for inspection, we decided to leave the setting at 10%, as the plug colour appeared indicate an ideal mixture.

No other tuning was performed on the day. We are still left to tune the fuel map in detail, the ignition map and the cam timing. When these things have been tuned, we will make some extractors to suit the subsequent power curve - and start the process again.
