When I began my study of the martial arts, it wasn't for the reason of killing boredom. I truly wanted to learn how to defend myself. During the first week of first grade, I witnessed a fight between two boys that were probably in the fifith or sixth grade. To me these guys were huge. I watched in horror as one of the boys pulverized the other with his fists and feet. Within seconds of the initial strike, one was on top of the other, pummeling the other boy (now very bloody), with his fists. I had never witnessed anything like this before. I was never exposed to anything violent up until that moment. I ran away from that nasty scene crying and blubbering. Soon after, it became my mission in life to learn how to defend myself because I knew that was the only way I would be able to stop something like the bloody scene I saw on the playground, from happening to me. That was 31 years ago. My mission hasn't changed. Along the way, I have found out what works, and what does not. I have been in many altercations in my professional and personal life and have witnessed and have been participant of many combat situations that make that little playground fight seem like just what it was... childs play. Since that time I have obtained a few battle scars, a few muscle and tendon tears, a few dislocated joints, and a few broken bones. Yet I am still alive. I learned from those mishaps of which I was still able to walk (or limp) away from. That is the world of real fighting folks. This is not sport or tournament martial arts, and it is not the fake world of "Tinsel Town." It is real. It bleeds, hurts, and even sometimes kills. This concept of fighting is not for everyone. But if you desire to learn how to truly defend yourself, you will find the contents within useful in your endeavor. This is an indept, no holds barred approach to self defense. I hope it helps you in your endeavor, or at least steers you into the right direction. I have done the leg work for you so that you can take a less painful route in learning true self defense.
