Website Tips

Things to Avoid:

Heavily textured backgrounds - They often make text hard to read.
Blinking text. It's just a blinking nuisance.
Text / background colour combinations that are too close in contrast. (tried reading dark blue text on a black background, or pale yellow on white?)
Overuse of the bold font. Used too much, it distracts the viewer's attention and defeats your purpose. Save it for headers.
Multiple fonts and text colours on the same page. Yuck!
Being vague. Links like "Other Stuff" tell you nothing.
Putting messages like "Best viewed in 1280 x 1024" They are annoying and people can't be bothered changing there settings.
Too much text. Don't try and cram everything on one page. Avoid great scrolling screenfuls.
Overusing large fonts. Web pages aren't eye charts, they're viewed from close up.
