non-conformistsi believe that the entertainment industry portray's today's youth as
lustful and violent. society then develops a negative image of the youth. young people
enter into a battle against the media and the "typical youth."
among the young adults called to fight these
stereotypes are members of cfc-youth for christ (yfc).
many movies directed to young adults are usually filled with violence such as murder and
brawls. this leads society into thinking that young people enjoy aggressive acts.
as taught by the Blessed Lord, yfc can counter that
false image by forgiving those who trespass against them. it is important to forgive one's
violator because it is an act of love. "the remedy to violence is love, not more
violence" (u.s. catholic bishops). i think that by forgiving, society can see that
the typical youth is loving, not violent.
television shows -- such as mtv and music videos -- like to display young adults as sexual
addicts. this pushes society into believing that today's youth are all
"hormones ready to explode." yfc is confronted with the image that the
youth are sex machines.
yfc members can counteract that image by living
chaste lives as taught by Jesus Christ through His Church. yfc can begin dressing modestly
as to avoid temptation to others. this will show yfc's desire to be pure themselves and
for others.
yfc can also act modestly by respecting the opposite sex as human beings created in the
image and likeness of God and not as objects of pleasure (cf. Genesis). society will then
see that the youth of real life are truly ones who desire to be pure.
unfortunately, the entertainment industry shows youth as immoral people. i believe that
yfc notices this and takes a stand against it to prove that real youth are willing to be
chaste and loving. i believe that this challenge is fought not with yfc's own strength,
but by the power of almighty God. amen!
