The garden was originally used for just growing vegetables. When my father died in 1980 I took it over. After a few years of neglect in 1983 I began work on it. Although still retaining a small vegetable plot I have changed the garden to mostly shrubs & flowers. Building as I went along the way 2 small ponds with goldfish & rockeries. Alpines are one of my favourite plants & I belong To the Alpine Garden Society. Birds are also a very important part of the garden with many shrubs producing berries for winter food. I am a member of the RSPB. For bringing on young plants I have added another greenhouse to the one that was already there. The garden has been a great source of pleasure for me over the years. Due to ill health I had a liver transplant in 1995 & am sure the garden helped me on the road to recovery.

A photo of the front of the house with my summer bedding. All the plants are grown from seed in the greenhouse. Planting begins in mid January & they are put outside towards the end of May. Most years for the bedding I grow Busy Lizzie, Petunias & lobelia.

This is the main fish pond which I can see from my lounge window. It's about 8 ft in diameter with a rockery surrounding it.. Planted in the marginals are Iris & Lobelia cardinalis. In the pond itself is a small dwarf water lily. Apart from the goldfish in the pond there are also newts & frogs. In the summer it attracts many dragonfly's. The local bird life use it for bathing in the shallow end. Over the last few years we have had trouble with herons & lost fish. The only way to stop them getting the fish apart from netting in the pond is to space out 3 pieces of string about a 1 ft high around the edge. Herons always walk into the water to catch fish & dislike climbing over the string.

Finally a photo of my garden bench. After mowing the lawn I can relax here watching the birds feeding on my bird feeders while enjoying the flowers of my garden
