New Markets Update December 2020: Mermaids Monthly is Making a Splash ... and Other New Aswiebe's Market List Updates!
Merry Christmas and happy holidays! My family celebrated the Longest Night yesterday. If you haven't sat in a dark room and read by candlelight recently, I recommend it. Very soothing! Even if you live with someone who insists on watching the football game at the same time...
For writers, with the holidays and the end of the year also comes award nomination season and the "Best of" collections.
Every writer who gets something published this year should make an awards eligibility post. It might sound like a big scary deal, but it really isn't. Make sure it says "awards eligibility post" and "2020." Then list the things you've had published this year, by category (short story, novelette, novella, novel) along with a link to read them. Bonus points for a quick, one-sentence description that might make a casual reader decide they want to read them! If they're behind a paywall, mention it.
Beyond that, the Bram Stoker Award, the World Fantasy Award, and the Arthur C. Clarke Award all require that works be submitted to be considered. The
Nebula Award does not allow self-nomination, but it does allow you to submit your work for consideration to the SFWA readers/nominators.
Most "Best of" anthologies require you to submit your work that was published this year. By the way, many publication contracts give an exception to any exclusivity rules for the "Best of" anthologies! Due dates on these vary. Don't miss this chance! If you have something published this year that fits the requirements, submit it!

(Do you have a writing question? Send it to me, either by replying to this email or by using the comment form on my website, and it may get answered in the next newsletter.) What I've been up to lately, writing-wise:
My short story, "In Their Image," has been released as a stand-alone ebook by After Dinner Conversation. Religion, and the desire to find purpose, and often paramount to
culture. In this work of philosophical short fiction, a priest
from earth is sent to another planet to continue the mission work of
her predecessor, only to discover the unsettling reason mission work has never succeeded there. This story, like all After Dinner Conversation stories, has suggested discussion questions at the end. Read: In Their Image: After Dinner Conversation Series
Since I was just talking about award season, I should add that "In Their Image" is not eligible for 2020 awards.
"The Dinosaur's Valentine," a story about love in a time of extinction, is my only award-eligible short story for 2020. I'm very proud of my tiny little story that could! It's available to read at Daily Science Fiction or to listen to at Centropic Oracle.

Everything should in some way relate to merfolk. We are loose about
how you want to define that, and we will consider other aquatic
fantastical creatures to be on theme. Yes, kelpies and selkies and
kappas and nagas are all okay! We would love to see creative
interpretations of the theme, and we’re also extremely interested in
seeing work from writers of many backgrounds. Our staff includes BIPOC
and queer people who are excited to explore diverse mermaid bodies,
cultures, genders, abilities, religions, neurotypes, ethnicities, and
more.
We are interested in happy and sad, light and dark, funny and serious. Most of all, we want to see what you most want to share.

New Markets Update November 2020: Hellmark Anthology Wants Monsters to Ruin Your Holiday ... and Other New Aswiebe's Market List Updates!
Does reading nonfiction make you a better fiction writer? This question came up in a writing group I'm a member of. The standard answer for SFF writers is that reading history makes you a better fantasy writer, and reading science (including anthropology) makes you a better science fiction writer.I'd go farther and say that reading widely, especially things that are different from the type of thing that you write, will make you a better writer. Of course, you also need to read things similar to what you write so that you don't find yourself reinventing the wheel. This might sound like I'm saying, "Read anything!" Well. Yes. Read anything.
But also, pay attention to what you are already reading, and balance it by reading something else. Do you read a lot of SF? Read fantasy. Do you read a lot of fantasy and SF? Read a thriller or a romance. Do you read a lot of fiction? Read non-fiction. Do you read a lot of books by women? Read books by male authors. Do you read a lot of white American authors? Read something from a different culture. Do you read a lot of so-called "disposable" urban fantasy or paranormal romance books? Read something that won an award. Do you only read award-winners? Read something with five stars on Amazon and no awards.
Next year, I plan on intentionally widening my reading list by intentionally limiting my options.
(Do you have a writing question? Send it to me, either by replying to this email or by using the comment form on my website, and it may get answered in the next newsletter.) What I've been up to lately, writing-wise: I've been trying to do a severely shortened version of NaNoWriMo, and boy, even hitting that wordcount goal has been a huge challenge. I wince every time I look at my pacemaker.press wordcount chart, but I'm not giving up! Wait, what do you mean we only have nine more days?!?
My bittersweet little SF story about love and what we leave behind us is now available in audio! Listen to it here: http://centropicoracle.com/library/F0105_TheDinosaursValentine.php

New Markets Update October 2020: Departure Mirror wants speculative fiction up to 20,000 words ... and Other New Aswiebe's Market List Updates!
When do you write? How do you know if it's the most productive time for you? Hint: it's when writing actually gets accomplished. One way to figure out the best time to write is to experiment with a bunch of different times of day, trying each time of day for a week or so, and see what happens. That's for when you have the luxury of not enough structured time. The other way is to say, "Well, I'm too exhausted at the end of the day to write, so I guess that means I have to turn myself into an early bird writer."
I don't particularly recommend the latter approach, but that's where I'm at. I am not a morning person. I am SO NOT a morning person. But my goal is to get myself to that magical 5 AM wake-up-and-write that I've heard about. I'm not there yet. If you are trying to make the same transition, here are a few things that are helping me: 1. Gradual change. I set my alarm 15 minutes earlier. When I manage to wake up and stay up, three times, I adjust the alarm again. 2. Vitamin D + happy light as soon as I sit at my desk with my mug of tea.
3. Feeding the cats first thing, so they encourage me to get out of bed! I fear that this is not reversible. 4. Getting excited about what I'm going to do the next morning, before I go to sleep. It's a lot easier to wake up when you want to do something.
I have hopes that the end of daylight savings time will get me all the way to my goal.
(Do you have a writing question? Send it to me, either by replying to this email or by using the comment form on my website, and it may get answered in the next newsletter.)
What I've been up to lately, writing-wise:
I have an event coming up! If you like steampunk--swashbuckling steampunk adventure, Weird West steampunk, post-apocalyptic steampunk, or steampunk mystery--you'll like it. Come listen to me and three other authors read from their steampunk novels and then discuss steampunk. Bring your questions! Thoughts in Passing
There are a couple of great free events coming up this week that I'm looking forward to, and you might too! This Wednesday evening, John Scalzi and
former International Space Station Commander and Air Force Colonel Terry Virts will have a discussion on Facebook Live.
Virts
is the author of How to Astronaut, a "wildly entertaining" account of
the rules, lessons, procedures and experiences of space travel. (This sounds like a book that would be great for any science fiction author, so keep that in mind even if you aren't interested in the talk.) Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/942067042911317 This weekend, September 17th - September 20th, FutureCon is hosting a massive virtual global SF convention, with an amazing list of guests, that takes place around the world and around the clock. https://www.futureconsf.com/home
(Do you have a writing question? Send it to me, either by replying to this email or by using the comment form on my website, and it may get answered in the next newsletter.)
What I've been up to lately, writing-wise:
Edits. So many edits (and critiques). I'm slowly working my way through novel revisions. And I took a break from novel revisions to do some !!extreme!! editing to two short stories so that I could submit them to a couple of very shiny publications. I cut Story 1 from 6,709 words to 2,962 words. Story 2, I took from 8,553 words to 5,972 words. Don't try this at home, kids. I'm a professional on a closed course. The hardest part of this was that both the stories contain humor, and humor needs room to breathe.
Things Shiny or UsefulFeatured Market

New Markets Update August 2020: Event This Sunday, New Non-Pro Writer Contest ... and Other New Aswiebe's Market List Updates!
All these suddenly-online science fiction and fantasy conventions are a wonderful opportunity! But as a friend said to me today, the pro ("There's so much!") is also the con ("There's so much!"). I haven't found a good comprehensive, continually updated list of current virtual conventions yet. The closest is the Locus list: https://locusmag.com/conventions/ . It's a good list of conventions, but I advise clicking through to see what the convention is doing currently. Several conventions listed as canceled are doing something virtual instead. For example, this weekend I'm enjoying NASFic online: https://columbus2020nasfic.org
(Do you have a writing question? Send it to me, either by replying to this email or by using the comment form on my website, and it may get answered in the next newsletter.)
What I've been up to lately, writing-wise:
Preparing to do a reading at one of those virtual cons!
Come to this free online event, enjoy some good stories, and see what
happens when I discover that I can add video effects to a recorded
reading. Did I tempt fate? Maybe. Bwa-ha-ha-ha! But seriously, I
expect this to be a great reading, and the Q&A at the end offers the
opportunity for some interesting discussions.
Enjoy performances by science fiction, mystery, and fantasy authors as part of CONvergence Online. Free, but registration is required:
https://convergence-con-org.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_pCdcCtxXSXeW8v1SKEigmg And if you're interested in learning more about how to do a reading yourself, consider this Part 1 of "How to Do a Reading." I'm presenting Part 2, a discussion of the nitty-gritty of preparing and performing a reading, in a couple of months.
Things Shiny or UsefulFeatured Market
Dream Foundry has launched an exciting contest for beginning science fiction and fantasy professionals!
This contest is for writers who are relatively new to paid or
incoming-earning publication of speculative short fiction in English. To
be eligible for this contest, all three rules below must be true of you:
- You have published a total of less than 4,000 words of paid or income-earning speculative fiction in English.
- You have earned a total of less than USD 320 from those words.
- You have never been nominated for any award listed here as a major award in speculative fiction.
We are looking for short speculative fiction (science fiction, fantasy,
weird fiction, etc.) Please don’t send us stories that have no
speculative element (mainstream, contemporary, romance, westerns,
historical fiction etc.).
Basics: all spec fic, less than 10,000 words, pays $1,000 - $250 prizes, no reprints. Submissions close October 11, 2020. To see all the details about these new listings and what they're looking for, as well as hundreds of other listings, go to Aswiebe's Market List and download the latest version of the spreadsheet.

New Markets Update July 2020: New flash fiction pub Baffling Magazine wants SF, fantasy, and horror with a queer bent ... and Other New Aswiebe's Market List Updates!
I've been wrangling my two young kids through distance-learning summer school, and it has left me exhausted and drained and uncreative at the end of the school day.
You know what helps?
A nap.
No, seriously. If you are exhausted and having trouble focusing, take a nap. I've found it to be marvelously restorative. When so many of us are dealing with overwhelm, stress, and trauma, a nap can be pretty damn magical.
"Sleep that knits up the raveled sleave of care, The death of each day's life, sore labor's bath, Balm of hurt minds, great nature's second course, Chief nourisher in life's feast.”
- Shakespeare
... The only problem is that then you may be off-sync with the rest of your household. Also (if you are a heavy sleeper like me), waking up from a nap may be challenging. Scheduling the nap to be an hour or less before a can't-miss appointment helps with that. For me, that means setting my alarm to "get up and cook dinner or your children will starve" o'clock. Any optional scheduling for naps will fail horribly for me!
(Do you have a writing question? Send it to me, either by replying to this email or by using the comment form on my website, and it may get answered in the next newsletter.)
What I've been up to lately, writing-wise:
I've been recovering from one of those "elective" surgeries. My miscreant gallbladder has been evicted, and not losing 4+ hours 1-2x/week to pain-so-bad-I-can't-do- anything-but-stream-cooking-shows has been wonderful. Depending on where you are, this might be your window to take care of dental work, elective surgery, optometry, preventive maintenance etc. for the next 6 months. If your region isn't peaking, get it done now. Seriously. (That Twilight Zone broken-glasses episode may have left a permanent impression on my extremely-short-sighted self.)
While recovering from surgery, I caught up on a *lot* of email. Sooooo... there may be more links than usual. They're good, I promise!
Things Shiny or UsefulFeatured Market
Baffling Magazine wants flash-length science fiction, fantasy, and horror with a queer bent.
What we want to see: We are looking for speculative stories that explore science fiction, fantasy, and horror with a queer bent. We want queer stories and we want trans stories and we want aro/ace stories. We want indefinable stories. We welcome weird, slipstream, and interstitial writing. What we don’t want to see: We’re not interested in unexamined bigotry or sexual violence; pieces that include such should be nuanced or looking at the post-event experience of the survivors.
Basics: all spec fic, < 1201 words, pays $.08/word, no reprints. To see all the details about these new listings and what they're looking for, as well as hundreds of other listings, go to Aswiebe's Market List and download the latest version of the spreadsheet.

New Markets Update June 2020: Welcome Dark Matter Magazine, a New Pro-Paying SF Market ... and Other New Aswiebe's Market List Updates!
The next update of Aswiebe's Market List will be after 7/15/2020.

Thoughts in Passing
When you have a lot of unstructured time ... or, on the other side, when you have very little time ... it's easy to say that you'll write sometime. When the time feels right. When you have a moment. When you feel inspired.
If the time hasn't been right for a while, it might be time to make a schedule. Start with a basic list of the absolutely necessary things you have to do in your life. Add writing. Figure out what gets done when, and then give it a try for a week. Adjust as needed. Everything else that is nonessential can get done when the time feels right.
(Do you have a writing question? Send it to me, either by replying to this email or by using the comment form on my website, and it may get answered in the next newsletter.)
What I've been up to lately, writing-wise:
Let's see. I watched TorCon panels. I did critiques and exchanged them for feedback on the beastie-in-progress that I need to edit. I continued to write to the #vss365 prompts. And I figured out that I need to schedule my writing time (see above) now that my kiddos are back in (distance learning) summer school at home, so I kind of know what my schedule is going to look like. Of course, I'm scheduled for gallbladder surgery in about two weeks, so everything's going to need to get readjusted during the recovery period for that. See "adjust as needed" above!
Things Shiny or UsefulFeatured Market
Dark Matter Magazine's Kickstarter succeeded! They want science fiction and pay $.08/word on acceptance (this is a big deal, FYI).
Sub Genres: Afrofuturism, Alternate Universe,
Apocalyptic, Cyberpunk, Dark Humor or Satire, Dying Earth, Dystopia,
Hard Boiled, Hard SF, Near Future, Pulp, Occult SF, SF Fantasy, SF
Horror, Slipstream, Space Opera, Theological, Weird SF
Memorable Characters Science fiction has often been called the genre of ideas, but we want stories that are more than just
interesting in concept. We want stories that explore how human beings
(or other sentient creatures) interact with and/or are shaped by the
story’s central conceit. Time travel is interesting, but we want to know
how time travel affects a specific person (your character) and the
world they inhabit.
Polished Story Structures We look for traditional
one-act or three-act structures. We welcome stories that play around in
these storytelling sandboxes, but we most likely won’t accept a story
that outright rejects them. We love epistolary formats and we welcome
them as submissions. Diary entries can still have an act structure,
after all.
Science! Yes, we want character-driven stories
with traditional story arcs, but those stories still have to be science
fiction. If your story can exist without the science element, we
probably won’t be interested. For example, we would reject Shakespeare
himself if he submitted Romeo and Juliet to us with the only
difference being that it was set aboard a space station. The science
doesn’t have to be 100% accurate, and you don’t need a PhD in physics to
submit to us. You just need to write about the way science, both real
and imagined, affects the characters and worlds in your story.
Basics: SF, 1,000 - 5,000 words, pays $.08/word, no reprints. To see all the details about these new listings and what they're looking for, as well as hundreds of other listings, go to Aswiebe's Market List and download the latest version of the spreadsheet.

If being even that active feels exhausting, figure out something that you can do passively that will work towards your goal of being a better writer. Maybe that's listening to a good writing podcast. Maybe that's attending a virtual convention (::waves::). Maybe that's rereading a favorite book and thinking about what makes it a favorite for you.
And if you're more productive than ever right now, good for you!
We're all doing what we can, and that's enough.
(Do you have a writing question? Send it to me, either by replying to this email or by using the comment form on my website, and it may get answered in the next newsletter.)
What I've been up to lately, writing-wise:
I've attended two online conferences in a row! As I type this, I am watching the Guest of Honor speeches at Wiscon online. Last week, I attended the Flights of Foundry virtual conference, which was fabulous. I recommend you to go sign up for the newsletter so that you get notified about the panel videos once they are released ( https://flights-of-foundry.org/newsletter/). My writing-related TBR pile has grown enormously!
If you can't attend a virtual convention, I've included a link below to a YouTube video of me running a cyberpunk story-building activity at the last Fargo CoreCon! I had fun doing it; hopefully you'll also have fun watching it.
Recently, I've started doing the #vss365 micro-stories/writing prompt/freewriting on Twitter, and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. This is my favorite so far. I'll probably expand it into a full story a bit down the line.

New Markets Update April 2020: Going Viral Anthology Wants SF Extrapolations of Current Events ... and Other New Aswiebe's Market List Updates!
Wow, things are changing fast. When I was first going to write this newsletter, I thought I'd write a little bit about how to prepare for working for home, possibly with another person who is also working from home. Then schools in Minnesota were closed, followed swiftly by a bunch of other movement restrictions. These are good things. Our governor is doing an excellent, competent job. But things have been changing awfully fast, and now I'm running a one-room schoolhouse for my kindergartner and third grader. I am exhausted and stressed by the end of the day. I haven't been getting any real writing work done (see: this newsletter is massively late) ... and I'm not being hard on myself for it. Stress and anxiety can actively cripple creativity.
We all do what we can.
On the other hand, writing does help relieve stress and anxiety. It doesn't have to be great writing, either. Sometimes just putting pen to paper or fingers to keyboard helps. So here are some things that are helping me cope, and that might help you.
1. Freewriting. Choose a random word, a song lyric, a picture on the internet, or some combination of those. Set a timer for 3 minutes, and write without stopping something inspired by it or describing what's happening. I have gotten many of my story ideas from daily freewriting. And even if you don't have the time or bandwidth to write a lot, look, you did something! When I can't write for extended periods of time, this helps keep the pipes from freezing.
2. Gamification. 4 the Words ( https://4thewords.com/) allows you to battle monsters and achieve goals by writing. Games are good escapism, and even better if they combine getting words written.
3. Reduce the choices you have to make. Decision fatigue is a thing, especially when people are stressed, grieving, or sick. Make a list of the things you have to do that are of equal priority. I have different lists for writing-related things, other tasks, and the most urgent things I need to do (taxes, bills, this newsletter ). I use the Pomodoro method for how long I work on things. Roll the dice or use an online number generator to see what number item you are going to work on next. I like the Tiny Decisions app, which lets you spin a wheel to choose what to work on next. Once I know what I'm doing, I work on it for 25 minutes, take a 5 minute break, and then spin the wheel again. Make sure to add something fun or relaxing to your to-do list!
4. Connect through podcasts, message boards, virtual meetings and classes. Right now you might be feeling isolated, both in general and from the writing community. If you don't have a lot of time, listening to writing podcasts, like Writing Excuses, is a way to connect passively. If you have time, Camp NaNoWriMo is running right now, and that's a good way to connect through message boards. MinnSpec, a writing group that I'm a member of, is hosting virtual writing events: https://www.meetup.com/MinnSpec/events/. And there are many online writing classes, as well as many conventions that are switching to virtual panels and socializing. Maybe you could try out a convention (like The Nebula Awards) that you wouldn't have been able to afford travel and hotel costs for before!
5. Read. Reading is a great way to escape into another world, and reading good fiction will also help you improve your own writing. I recommend the Long List Anthology, which collects runners-up for the Hugo Awards.Want to know what's good and new? Here you go: https://www.amazon.com/Long-List-Anthology-Stories-Nomination-ebook/dp/B081HDC5SQ/(Do you have a writing question? Send it to me, either by replying to this email or by using the comment form on my website, and it may get answered in the next newsletter.)
What I've been up to lately, writing-wise:
I have a new flash fiction story out! "The Dinosaur's Valentine" in DailySF is my story about love in a time of extinction. It's very short, sweet, sad, and hopeful. This story was inspired by Hugo-award-nominated master craftswoman Elise Mattheson, who used this titular pair of earrings as a writing challenge. The flower on the earrings is the flower at the end of the story.

In the middle of all of this, black market businesses have begun to
operate: underground hair salons, photography studios, businesses once
completely legitimate and now illegal simply for operating.
If I’d written this call a year ago, it would stop there–but that’s
no longer speculative fiction. That’s happening. So instead, Impulsive
Walrus is asking for stories about the long haul. What does our world
look like if the quarantine just…stays? We’re looking for near-future
science fiction stories exploring the comedy, horror, and human drama of
a life spent six feet away from each other, and a world where our
interaction is done digitally, lest we be ravaged by disease.
Basics: hard SF, 2,000 - 8,000 words, pays $.02/word, accepts reprints, submission window 5/5/2020 until full. New Markets Update February 2020: $.15/wd speculative fiction ... and other Aswiebe's Market List updates!
(Do you have a writing question? Send it to me, either by replying to this email or by using the comment form on my website, and it may get answered in the next newsletter.)
Do you have so much stuff to do that just trying to decide where to start is exhausting? Gamify it! I recently discovered this little app called Tiny Decisions. You put in all your chores (or writing projects) and it creates a colorful wheel that you get to spin to find out what you work on next. Combine this with the Pomodoro Method of working intensely on something for 25 minutes and then taking a 5 minute break, and you have a new method to defeat choice paralysis!
What I've been up to lately, writing-wise:
Let's just say that sometimes writing this section of the newsletter has me looking back at what I wrote about *last* month and seeing that not much has gotten done in the meantime. ::facepalm:: I did finish the audio narration on a science fiction story for Escape Pod, so if you want to listen to me reading you a bedtime story and find out how I imitated a synthesized voice, you can download that here: http://escapepod.org/2020/01/30/escape-pod-717-listening/Things Shiny or Useful

The New Modality is looking for fiction and non-fiction contributors, pays 2x pro rate for SF (or an honorarium).
Many people in our core audience are in the tech industry or are tech-adjacent. So science fiction that digs into tech extrapolations and questions of scale is fun and give us ideas to chew on (e.g. Newitz, Naam, Ryman). Also, a bunch of our audience is into spirituality, consciousness, and mythology (different authors on the above list obviously have different approaches here, but Pollack is amazing, as are Palmer and Chiang in their own ways). Governance is a beloved theme (e.g. Dickinson, Anders, Le Guin) and so are different cultural perspectives (e.g. Okorafor, Ryman, Liu) — and of course stunningly beautiful, poetic writing is always thrilling (e.g. El-Mohtar/Gladstone).

New Markets Update January 2020: Compelling Science Fiction is Back! ...And Other Aswiebe's Market List Updates
I recently had a Valentine's Day-themed story accepted by Daily Science Fiction. Hurray! I submitted it in late October, it was accepted in early January, and it will likely be published mid-February. This is the sort of timeline that you're looking at when you consider submitting short stories that work well for a particular holiday. (Submitting around December adds a couple of weeks to the time, because most editors take time off around the winter holidays.) Also bear in mind that odds are good the first place you submit to is probably not going to be the one that publishes the story. So when should you start shopping around a seasonal story?
At least 3 months earlier.
So right now, you should be polishing up that St. Patrick's Day or Easter story and getting ready to send it out. Note that holiday stories don't have to take place on that named holiday, but every holiday comes with certain themes that make great story inspiration.
Chinese New Year - 1/1 - submit in early October
Valentine's Day - 2/14
- submit in late October
Mardi Gras - 2/25 - submit in early December
St. Patrick's Day - 3/17
- submit in early January
Easter - 4/12
- submit in January
Mother's Day - 5/10
- submit in early February
Juneteenth - 6/19
- submit in early March
Father's Day - 6/21
- submit in March
4th of July - 7/4
- submit in March
Halloween - 10/31
- submit in late July
Thanksgiving - 11/26
- submit in late August
Winter Holidays - 12/25
- submit in early September
New Year's Eve - 12/31
- submit in early September
(Do you have a writing question? Send it to me, either by replying to this email or by using the comment form on my website, and it may get answered in the next newsletter.)
What I've been up to lately, writing-wise:
Well, I didn't get that handwritten story typed up in time to submit (There's a lot of it! How long is this thing, anyway??), so I'm still working on that. And I've also got a couple of short stories, as well as my last novel, in the "gathering critiques" phase. And a few more that are in revisions. While I'm mentioning this, I'm also looking for a couple of specific readers to give feedback on a short story: a Deaf person, and a drag queen. If one of those is you, let me know! Compensation: the price of a cup of coffee, a developmental critique, and/or a 30-minute professional photoshoot (Minneapolis only).
Featured Market
The stories we accept almost always:
- illustrate at least one interesting concept,
- are engaging, and
- clearly explain the science/technology in the story.
The ‘concept’ referenced in point (1) can be
anything from new engineering ideas to novel social constructs to
abstractions that help illustrate basic properties of reality. Point (2)
is far more subjective, although as long as your story consistently
moves forward it will probably be engaging. Point (3) is hard to attain
without some knowledge of basic science/engineering; we encourage you to
learn as much as you can about your subject matter. If your story is
very strong in one of the above areas, we will sometimes accept weakness
in the other two. Ultimately we are looking for science fiction that is
entertaining, scientifically plausible, self-consistent, and
technically detailed when appropriate. We have a preference for positive
stories, to act as a counterweight to the currently popular
post-apocalyptic genre. We certainly won't dismiss a well-written
dystopian future, but we have a bias toward stories that depict
technological advancement rather than decay. We do not publish fantasy
stories (although we enjoy them!). For more information about what we
look for, please reference my plausible science fiction blog post.
To see all the details about these new listings and what they're looking for, as well as hundreds of other listings, go to Aswiebe's Market List and download the latest version of the spreadsheet.
