SERN JIT GWUN/ NUNCHAKU

INTRODUCTION- Mediocre Moves

The following set of techniques require moderately skilled trainees who can at least perform all the techniques on the Simple Moves page. Becareful because there is high probability in hitting the back of your head and back/ spine. Please use a pair of foam Sern Jit Gwun/nunchaku if you are learning.

SWITCHING HANDS

'Underarm switch'-

  • On guard position
  • Strike opponent's chin.
  • Continue flowing the Sern Jit Gwun/ Nunchaku over your opposite arm.
  • Allow it to flow under your opposite shoulder where your hand is now ready to catch it.
Tips: Make sure you have momentum otherwise it will steer off course and may hit your back. Also, very important, do not HESITATE!
Develops: More variety of setups to use and enables fast hand switching.
'Overhead switch'-
  • On guard position
  • Strike opponent over the head.
  • Continue flowing the Sern Jit Gwun/ Nunchaku under your opposite arm.
  • Allow it to flow over your opposite shoulder where your hand is now ready to catch it.
Tips: Make sure you have momentum otherwise it will steer off course and may hit your head. Also, very important, do not HESITATE!
Develops: More variety of setups to use and enables fast hand switching.

SURPRISE COMBINATIONS

‘Reaper returns’-
  • On guard position.
  • Strike horizontally at opponent’s temple.
  • Allow Sern Jit Gwun/ Nunchaku to continue to swing behind your neck whilst other hand is ready to grab it at the other side.
  • Now perform a reverse horizontal attack to the same target area (temple).
Tips: Perform this as swiftly as possible; opponent will never have sufficient time to block.
Develops: more variety of options after initial strike and keeps the opponent guessing whilst under pressure.
