SERN JIT GWUN/ NUNCHAKU

INTRODUCTION- Simple Moves

The following are some basic moves that MUST be inputted into your bodies neuro-muscle system. Therefore during combat when pressure is high there is no need for the body to think about doing the move BUT will be performed instantly!

The trick is repetition. Let your body get use to each movement. Train with the same pair of Sern Jit Gwun/ nunchaku so it begins to take in and adapt to your spirit therefore making your control becom second nature. Only when this is achieved has the nunchaku become a an extension of your arsenal.

P.S. I am not responsible for injuries so if you have problems with any parts of your body, please consult a doctor first!

COMBAT MOVES:

  1. ‘Viper Strike’-

  • On guard position.
  • Now release and launch an overhead strike to the opponent’s head.
  • Catch by returning to original posture.

Tips: Always picture/ assume you are striking your opponent on the head to ensure the correct direction of technique.
Twist your waist for more power and reach (guard hand will automatically be drawn back)
Develops: Wing Chun Punching

  1. ‘Comet Strike’-
  • On guard position.
  • Release and throw weapon backwards (assuming uppercut to opponent) and let it rest on the triceps.
  • Launch an overhead strike to the opponent’s head from there for extra power as there is more leverage compared to the Viper Strike.

Tips: When you swing your baton backwards fast, as it rebounds on your triceps and pounces forward, if you initiate your strike from that moment, your strike will generate extra destructive power and speed. Again, twist the hips for more power and reach.
Develops: Hammer blow

  1. ‘Figure 8 shield'-
  • On guard position.
  • Release and launch an overhead horizontal strike to opponent's head.
  • Simultaneously lift baton upwards for an overhead horizontal strike to other side of opponents head and repeat until situation has calmed.
Tips: If there is difficulty in coordination, just imagine drawing the figure 8. Mainly wards off or keeps opponent in comfortable proximity.
Develops: Escaping and building speed and pressure in arms.
  1. ‘Panic Attack'-
  • Neutral position.
  • Change one grasp from palm facing down to facing up.
  • Now follow the flowing sequence of the ‘Figure 8 shield' technique.
Tips: Use the figure 8 mentality to coordinate your movement. Used when opponent is slowed down or again to keep your distance.
Develops: Escaping and building speed and momentum while relaxing.
  1. ‘Umbrella guard'-
  • On guard position.
  • Perform uppercut strike with lower arm and when Sern Jit Gwun/ nunchaku passes your head, continually swing it around your head.
  • When there is an opening, strike the opponent.
Tips: Should 1st strike miss, the overhead circular swing will provide a quick follow up. Do not swing for too long as energy is wasted.
