 Half-Life  (Sierra)

Half-Life is an extraordinary game for its time. It is an FPS which has a very well made single player campaign. Online play is also very exciting. It is usually every person for themselves and your goal is to have the most frags, which is exactly how score is kept To get frags you must "kill" other players by picking up guns from the ground and utilizing them. There are many servers to play on, and many people to play with. There are a variety of maps, and others can be made with the Worldcraft Editor, although it is a very difficult process. This is barely the beginning, the Half-Life engine can be "modified" so you can make your very own game (which takes a lot of hard work and time." There are many MODS that are well-known, such as Counter-Strike, Firearms, and many others..

Counter-Strike is perhaps the most successful Half-Life mod, because of a very good balance of realism and arcade. CS is based on teamwork, because there are two teams: counter-terrorists and terrorists. The guns in this game are realistic, with real names. To get a gun you can either scavenger from dead people, or you can buy them at certain locations. The more the cash you spend the better the gun you'll get (if you use it properly). There are more types of items such as grenades and everyone starts out with a knife. The score is determined by how many rounds the team has won, while the score of the player is determined by how many frags you have. Another neat feature is voice communication. During matches, you can communicate by voice, rather than typing text out. This is vital because CS is a very fast-paced game and saying something takes nothing away from you. To win a round you must kill all of the other team, or complete an objective depending on the type of map you are playing. On Bomb/Defuse maps T's start with a bomb and must place it at a bomb site to win the round. Hostage maps, CTs have to rescue at least half the hostages. In Assassination maps, one player on the CT team is a VIP who is fairly easy to kill, which is why the team must protect him/her or lose the round. The last "official" type is Escape map. Half of the terrorists must make it to a location in the map in order to win, not many of these maps are around any more because they were deleted from the official maps during the beta.
