Characturge Help

This nifty program allows you to create just about any type of World Of Darkness Character such as Vampires, Elders, Dhampir, Werewolves, Mages, Changelings, Demon: The Fallen, Hunters, Humans, Fae, Wraiths, you name it! It also gives you fields to list rituals, paths, other abilities, your characters description, equipment/clothing, notes, etc.

Once you download the file, I recommend that you make a new folder named Characurge Character Creator on your desktop or wherever. Once you've dont that, open up the file, select all and extract all the files into the folder you just made. The interface is identical to the VTM Character Generator that we've been using so it will look familiar to you when you open it up as it is made by the same person. However, it isn't compatable with the VMC files as it uses different file types.

You will also need to download the Rav Templates file as well, because it works hand in hand with the program. Once you have downloaded the Rav Templates Zip, open up the zip and look for the file named "Vampire - Revised" and drag it into the folder that you created. This is the right template for our particular needs. I suggest that you just leave the others in the zip for now as you don't really need them at this point and they will just clutter up your folder.
* NOTE: If you plan on spending enough freebie points on generation to become a 7th generation vampire, you will have to use the "Vampire - Elder" template instead, but you still must use the standard 7/5/3, etc. system for filling out your sheet. Also not that for some reason the program seems to have a glitch in terms of giving you the proper bloodpool, so be sure to refer to the VTM 3rd edition book and look up your characters generation and just manually make additional boxes with a pen or marker on your sheet after ya print it out.

Once you have the Vampire - Revised.CGT (or Vampire - Elder) file in your folder right click on it and select open with, then browse for the CGDK MFC Application file that you just extracted into the folder that you made. Once you've done that all of the CGT files will then have an icon. All you have to do now is double click on the CGDK MFC Application file icon and the program will open up. Select open and look for the Vampire - Revised.CGT and open it. You can now create your character sheet just as always only with TONS of more options for refining your character! By the way, as far as I can figure CGT seems to stand for Character Generation Template.

Now, once you are finished filling out your sheet, go to file then save as. and the "File Save As" window will open. Make sure that in the save file as type: it says cgc. Common sense tells me that CGC stands for Character Generation Character (or something to that effect). Anyway...you'll notice that in the file name field it is hielighted. You want to click in front of the .CGC then backspace. Now, what i've discovered for some reason is that you can only use lowercase letters in the name and it can't have any spaces or anything and it seems like there may be a limit to the amount of characters the name can have in it or something. I always had this same problem with the VTM Char Gen. too though nad it seemed like others didn't. Be sure and let me know if you know what I may be doing wrong.

Name the file and save it and if ya need to reopen it (which you will) just open up the program as usual and open your character's .CGC file.

Be sure to put your characters armor, weapons, paths, rituals, etc. along with a brief description of its system as far as what dice you need to roll, your weapons ratings, your armor's rating and penalty, etc. In other words put as much info as ya can. This will help you in game as far as knowing your characters systems and such and save alot of time looking through the books if it's right in front of you. It will help me as the ST a great deal too!

Enjoy!
