A Few Favorite Poems

I just thought I would share some of my favourite poems with those of you who might be interested. I have also thrown in a few of my own in hopes that they might be of some comfort or help to someone else. They have been a great help to me during my trials and triumphs. I give God the glory for all of my poetry, as there is no way I alone could have written any of these pieces. He is my encouragement through all of my life's experiences, and I praise His holy name for His mercy and grace.

There are hugs that say I like you and I hold your friendship dear.
There are hugs that say "good going" you deserve a great big cheer.
There are hugs that say goodbye, good luck in all that lies ahead.
There are hugs that say I love you when no other words are said.
There are hugs that soothe and say to us you're free from cares and harms.
The kind of hug we feel when God holds us within His arms.

    Ocean Dream
    by Carlene Tinkler
(inspired by God on the beach in Doolin, Ireland)

The seas are crashing as each wave breaks
The sun is setting with each new stake.
           Dreams awaken
           -and hearts are break’n,
but life’s true love keeps moving on.

The cliffs are jagged and soaring high
The mountains are set against the sky.
           The clouds are few
           -and hearts are blue,
but life’s true love keeps moving on.

Who am I in this vast new world?
I feel so small as my life uncurls.
           Each step I take
           my life must make,
because life’s true love moves on for me.

      INDEPENDENCE

An eagle spreads its wings to fly
and soars and soars up in the sky.
A seed misplaced falls far below
to find its place and start to grow.

The spring rains come
      and the sun shines down,
While the tiny seed
      sprouts from the ground.

Its stem reachs up into the air
as buds stretch into each leaf fair.
The warm spring sunlight spreads its rays
and this little plant embraces the waves.

It now has grown big and tall
but the time has come to show them all.
Branches stretch far and wide
to show the rest its strength and pride.

It all began from a little seed
that came itself from other trees.
It could not stay where they were
but had to find its own plot of earth.

Comes the Dawn

Comes the Dawn

by Joy Whitman

After a while you learn the subtle difference

between holding a hand and sharing a life.

And you learn that love doesn’t mean possession,

and company doesn’t mean security,

and loneliness is universal.

And you begin to learn that kisses aren’t contracts

and presents aren’t promises,

And you begin to accept your defeats with your head up and your eyes open,

with the grace of an adult, not the grief of a child,

And you learn to build your hopes on today

as the future has a way of falling apart in mid-flight

because tomorrow’s ground can be too uncertain for plans,

yet each step taken in a new direction creates a path

toward the promise of a brighter dawn.

And you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much,

so you plant your own garden and nourish your own soul

instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.

And you learn that love, true love,

always has joys and sorrows

seems ever present,

yet is never quite the same

becoming more than love and less than love

so difficult to define.

And you learn that through it all

you really can endure

that you really are strong

that you do have value

and you learn and grow

with every goodbye you learn.

Here's a poem that I believe needs a little explanation not because it won't speak for itself but because it is very special. This poem has been dedicated to the memory of a very very special man that touched my life. I pray that this poem honors the memory of Travis Wayne Nail's life each time someone reads it. His life was taken in an tragic automobile accident.

Joining of Souls

Those open arms and hazel eyes
are full of love and peace.
You comfort me with just one look
                and give my fears release.
I lay my hand in your grip
and feel your heart join mine.
All it took was one sweet look
for my heart to be yours for a lifetime.

I'll never see those eyes again
or feel those arms embrace me.
But in my heart I'll always know
how that love of yours graced me.
You're with me now through good and bad
                no matter where I go.
Our souls met as God had planned
and joined for eternity I know.
