EPISODE: 26

My purest heart for you

Swimming naked in the water tank filled with red L.C.L. is Rei.
She's floating lifelessly while staring at the destroyed spares
in the tank.
"Were you here all this time, Rei?" asks Commander Ikari.
Rei doesn't respond. Instead, she glares at the Commander with
her cold red eyes.
"The promised time has finally come. We must go."

"We've penetrated the second layer completely, sir." comes a
voice over the JSSDF wireless.
"We haven't taken over the Magi or the second announcement place
yet as we are currently in action on the western lower layer
floor." comes another voice from the wireless.
"Take some heat of the 5th Marbolgia at once!" orders another
voice.

In a corridor, a NERV staff member tries to surrender to a JSSDF
squad. But, to his horror, he is killed in cold blood.

"We have orders to kill all the Eva pilots as soon as they are
discovered. Permission to fire at non combatants unconditionally
is granted." says a voice over the wireless.
"The Yanagihara and Shinjou party are ordered to advance the
lower layer at once." adds another.

Hiding under a staircase is Shinji. He is holding both knees
close to his chest.
Three JSSDF officers approach him.
"We've just found the third child. Erase him from the list." says
an officer into his wireless.
A JSSDF officer pull his gun out and aims it at Shinji's head.
Shinji doesn't react.
"Don't hate me because of this, okay? I'm only doing my job."
says the officer as he gets ready to fire.
Suddenly, a gun shot rings out.
"Huh?" says a surprised officer.
The head of a JSSDF officer explodes with blood and he falls to
the ground.
Running down the corridor, gun blazing, is Misato. She kills
another officer.
Misato kicks the third officer and puts the gun under his chin.
"Don't hate me because of this, okay? I'm only doing my job."
says Misato as she pulls the trigger, killing the final officer.
"Alright, let's make our way to Unit-01." declares Misato.

At the underground parking lot in NERV, Misato is busy adjusting
the dials on the JSSDF wireless.
"What happened to the Yamagishi support party who were at the
seventh cage?" asks a voice.
"We've secured 'Purple'. The bakelite shouldn't make a difference
to our advance." says another.
"It seems that 'Red' had already been launched. Presently, we are
surveying the possible launch path."
"This isn't good. They're trying to prevent the physical contact
of Shinji and Unit-01." says Misato.
"We can't find the first child. She hasn't been found yet." says
another voice over the wireless.
"There's no time to waste. Let's go, Shinji." says Misato.
To her surprise, Shinji doesn't move.
"Shinji, you've got to choose. Either you run away or make your
way to Unit-01. You'll only die if you stay here." says Misato.
"Help me, Asuka. Help me..." moans Shinji.
"Clinging to a girl, running away and avoiding reality. These
half finished goals of yours are terrible!" exclaims Misato as
she grabs Shinji roughly by the arm and tries to get him to move.
"Well? Stand up, damn it! Stand up!" shouts Misato angrily.
"I'm sick and tired of everything. I don't want to do anything
anymore. I want to die..." says Shinji weakly.
"How can you say that, Shinji? You're acting like a child! Are
you still alive? Then fight for your right to live!"

In the second announcement place, things have settled down. Maya
is still trembling from the ordeal and her grip on her cushion
has not loosened.
"It's worked itself out finally. Give orders for the division of
Terminal Dogma." orders Commander Fuyutski.
"Although we've had explosions everywhere, they haven't detonated
any explosives here." points out Makoto.
"They want to finish this at a stretch. But, they can't as the
original Magi system is directly under us." replies Shigeru.
"Maybe they want to take over the Magi as close to their original
condition as possible?"
"We also happen to posses a small collection of BC weapons.
Therefore, it would be dangerous if they would used it."
"Yeah, it acts as an N2 mine also." adds Makoto.

Suddenly, an N2 mine falls from the sky over Tokyo-3 and
explodes. A huge hole forms at the top of the dome of the
Geofront. But, the assault doesn't stop there. Missiles, launched
by the JSSDF, fall like rain through the hole in to the Geofront.

"Damn! They've penetrated all of the protective layers!" exclaims
Shigeru.
"Don't they know what they're doing?" asks Makoto.
"Hmm. They're being unreasonable." says Commander Fuyutski.
"Why? Why do they want the Eva's so as much as to do this?"
demands Maya.

Misato's car passes the Eva graveyard. Driving it is Misato with
Shinji in the passenger seat.
"They're going to set the Third Impact into motion by using the
Eva series, not the Angels. The Second Impact, which happened 15
years ago, was actually planned. Planned by man. Reducing Adam
to his embroic form before the other Angels arrived was the
reason to keep damage to a minimum. Shinji, humans are the same
as Adam. We, the human race, are the 18th Angel who was born from
the being we call Lilith, the source of life. The Angels who
attacked us were another humankind who gave up the shape of man.
They were a sad existence that rejected each other. Therefore,
humans are the same as them. Do you understand, Shinji? You must
destroy the Eva series. It's the only way we can survive."
explains Misato.
Shinji doesn't react.

In the third business room of the official residence of the prime
minister, an interesting conversation is taking place.
"It seems that telephone isn't working." says the prime minister.
"Yes, the explosion of a missile was confirmed three minutes ago,
sir." replies his secretary.
"NERV carried out the "Human Instrumentality Project" secretly,
which the purpose was to induce the Third Impact. The Third
Impact that would erase humankind. It's unbelievable!"
"There won't be a creature who can hate itself except for
humans."
"Well, the problem that developed in NERV headquarters was left
to me." points out the prime minister.
"Are we entrusting Germany or China with the redevelopment?"
"It was decided that they take unfair advantage of us. That place
has been a sealed off area for 20 years now. Much in the same way
as the old Tokyo."

At the front line base in Tokyo-3, the current situation is
updated.
"The heat of the surface has cooled down. The high pressure steam
shouldn't make a difference." comes a voice over the JSSDF
wireless.
"We've completed the arrangement of all our forces." comes
another voice.
"The third layer of Dogma and 'Purple' are presently under our
control." reports a JSSDF officer.
"What happens to 'Red'?" demands the squad commander.
"We've discovered 'Red' at the depth of 70 meters in the ground
lake. The designated pilot's existence isn't clear."

At the bottom of the lake lies Eva Unit-02, holding both knees
close to its chest. In the entry plug, Asuka is in the same
position.
"I'm still alive..." says Asuka quietly.
Suddenly, an N2 explodes near Unit-02's head.
Asuka groans as she feels the Eva's pain.
"I don't want to die, I don't want to die, I don't want to die."
says Asuka continuously.
"You're still alive..." comes the voice of Kyoko Sohryu Zeppelin,
Asuka's mother. 
"I don't want to die, I don't want to die, I don't want to die."
"You must not die yet..."
"I don't want to die, I don't want to die, I don't want to die."
"You're still alive..."
"I don't want to die, I don't want to die, I don't want to die."
"I don't your death yet..."
"I don't want to die, I don't want to die, I don't want to die."
"You must not die..."

"I DON'T WANT TO DIE!" screams Asuka.
A child Asuka is standing inside a forest. She's holding onto the
stuffed monkey toy.
"Momma...You were here, momma!" cries the little girl.

Underwater, Eva-02's eyes ignite. A giant pink cross of light
grows from the bottom lake and reaches to the sky.

"What the hell is that?" exclaims a JSSDF officer.
"Did we do that?" asks another.

Inside the entry plug, Asuka sits quietly. Then Asuka screams.

Unit-02 bursts out of the water and lifts up a JSSDF ship and
throws it toward the tanks that cover the shoreline.

"Momma, I finally understand the A.T. field. It protects me. It
sees me. You were with me all the time!" exclaims Asuka.

Unit-02 advances towards the JSSDF forces situated in the
Geofront. JSSDF rocket trucks fire all of their arsenal at the
Eva without effect. UN hovercopters surround the giant beast and
proceed to fire their machine guns. The Eva swipes at the
aircrafts as if they were flies and the aircrafts shatter as the
monolith strikes them down. The Eva kicks another hovercopter and
it shatters. This continues and the JSSDF persist in uselessly
attacking the Evangelion.

"Unit-02 has just activated! Asuka is still alive!" comes Maya's
voice over the wireless in Misato's car.
"Asuka?" exclaims a surprised Misato.
Shinji is also surprised at the news.

Back outside NERV headquarters, Eva Unit-02 is continuing its
rampage, destroying JSSDF military artillery, one by one. 

"Concentrate on severing the Eva's power cable." orders the squad
commander of the JSSDF.

Unit-02's power cable is destroyed by the JSSDF and it's switches
to its internal battery.

"Even if my umbilical cable is cut off, I've still got 12,000
volts of electricity pulsing through my Eva. I won't be
defeated!" exclaims Asuka as she continues her slaughter.

Chairman Keel of SEELE has now learned of the situation taking
place in the Geofront.
"The Eva series are an abominable existence. Are they obstructing
our plan again? It seems like we will have to fight fire with
fire." says Keel.

Above the Geofront, nine white Mass Production model Evangelions
detach from their designated transport plane. Attached on their
backs is the F-type equipment, wings which enable flight. Written
in red on the Eva's dummy plugs is the word 'KAWORU'.

"Was there an Eva series completed?" mutters Asuka as she looks
at the Mass Production model Eva's slowly circling overhead.
This revelation disturbs Commander Fuyutski.
"Why did they send nine Eva's powered by the S2 engine? No, it
can't be... Are they actually going to set it off here?"

Outside headquarters, the Mass Production model Eva's land and
fold their wings.

In the underground parking lot, Misato is talking to Asuka
through her mobile phone.
"Do you understand me, Asuka? You must completely destroy the Eva
series. I'll get Shinji to join you as soon as possible. Good
luck!"
Misato cuts the connection and calls the second announcement
place.
"Can we get to Unit-01 if we use emergency route 20?" asks
Misato.
"Yes, you should be able to. We've secured a power supply in
three sections. If you arrive within three minutes, you can make
your way directly to the seventh cage." replies Makoto.
Shinji still doesn't make an effort to move. Misato takes Shinji
and proceeds to drag him to the seventh cage.

In her entry plug, Asuka looks at the white Evangelions surround-
ing Unit-02.
"Did you say that I have to completely destroy all of them? Then
I'll do it, Misato. I just have to kill nine within three minutes
and thirty seconds. That means I can only spend 30 seconds on
each. I like those odds." says Asuka as she smiles.

Standing at the entrance of emergency route 20 is Misato with
Shinji in tow.
"Is this it?" mutters Misato.
Suddenly, they're discovered by a JSSDF squad. As they escape,
Misato gets shot in the side. Luckily, Misato and Shinji manage
to escape into the tunnel.
"We let them escape?" asks a JSSDF officer.
"Sir, should we pursue the enemy?" comes a voice over the JSSDF
wireless.
"Chase is unnecessary. We will be detonating explosives there
shortly. Your orders are to return immediately." replies another
voice.
"Roger."

Misato has finally reached her goal, the elevator leading to the
seventh cage.
"I can buy us some time using this...I'm okay...I can still do
this, even though I'm injured..." says Misato as she holds her
wound.
She tries to approach Shinji. But the terrified Shinji steps
back.
"The power supply for the elevator is still active...It will take
you to the cage..." continues Misato as she corners Shinji,
pressing his back against the wire mesh which covers the elevator
door.
"Shinji, only you can continue on from here. You now have to make
all the decisions yourself without asking anyone for help."
"I'm worthless! I'm worthless! I can't pilot my Eva without
hurting or killing someone! I thought I could pilot Eva and avoid
doing those things, but I was wrong! I don't know anything and
I don't deserve to be an Eva pilot! I can't do a single thing
right! I treated Asuka badly! I killed Kaworu! I haven't got a
shed of human kindness either! That's why I'm a coward! I only
do things that hurt people! That's why I shouldn't do anything!"
exclaims Shinji.
"I don't agree with you! You'll die if you won't do what you
don't like." replies Misato.
Shinji begins to cry.
"Crying now will give you nothing! You probably hate yourself.
But, you're hurting a person because of that. Because you know
that 'one person hurting themself' produces more sorrow in the
heart than 'a person hurting another'. However, it is you alone
who decides if every thought is hurtful. It can have a value,
Shinji. It is your own thoughts. You have to think about what you
can do without running away. Think about what you can do to
help."
"You're a stranger, Misato! You don't know anything about me!"
This comment causes Misato to get angry.
"What are you trying to imply by that? Are you going to give up,
just like that? If you're not going to do anything, I will never
forgive you! I'll never forgive you for my death." says Misato
and places her bloody hand on Shinji's cheek.
"The present is not an absolute existence. I repented after I
made a mistake. My life was full of those mistakes. I did nothing
but pile up hatred towards myself and the joy was short lived.
But, if it was possible, I would try to better myself each time.
Shinji, you are the only one who can pilot Eva. Answer yourself,
who will pilot Eva? Why did you come here? What are you doing
here? You have to find the answer to those questions. When you
have, do what you have to do and return to my apartment."
explains Misato as she takes off her cross pendant and hands it
over to Shinji.
"It's a promise between you and me. I'll see you later." says
Misato and kisses Shinji full on the lips.
"This is an adult kiss. You have to return to me so that we may
continue it." explains Misato.
Shinji nods.
The wire mesh opens suddenly and the surprised Shinji falls into
the elevator.
As the door closes, Misato smiles towards Shinji. She then
collapses on the floor and closes her eyes.
"Hmm... I wish that I changed the carpet like Asuka told me to,
especially when I'm in conditions like these... Hey, Penpen...
Kaji... Is it alright if I stay like this for a while?" mutters
Misato to herself.
Suddenly, the whole area explodes. Rei, dressed in her school
uniform, appears besides Misato momentarily and then vanishes.

Inside the elevator, Shinji wipes at his damp face. Clinging to
Shinji's mouth is Misato's blood. This causes Shinji to cry even
more.

In the Geofront, Asuka has begun to slaughter the Mass Production
model Evangelions. She approaches two Eva's and pounds at their
faces and abdomens. Unit-02 grabs hold of one Eva's arm and
throws the Eva, ripping its arm of and spraying blood everywhere.
Another Eva attacks her and she steals on of the double edged
lances and lashes out at the Eva. One after another, Mass
Production model Eva's fall under Unit-02's wrath.

Shinji has finally arrived at the seventh cage where Unit-01 is
stored. It's here Shinji hears Asuka's voice again coming from
the wireless.
"They're persistent, alright! But I still don't need help from
the invincible Shinji!" comes Asuka's angry voice from the
speaker.

Commander Ikari and the still naked Rei are in Terminal Dogma.
They look up at the giant shape of Lilith.
Before them stands Ritsuko.
"I was waiting for you." says Ritsuko as she aims her gun at
Gendou.
Commander Ikari doesn't reply.
"You might like to know that I secretly altered a program in Magi
some time ago. This is the last request from your daughter,
mother. Die with me." continues Ritsuko.
Suddenly, her datapad beeps.
"What? Why isn't it working?" demands Ritsuko as she pulls out
her datapad from her coat pocket. On the screen, the words
'Casper has rejected code' appear.
"Casper has betrayed me... Mother, are you choosing your lover
over your own daughter?" asks Ritsuko.
Commander Ikari aims his gun at her.
"Ritsuko Akagi. I love you..." says Gendou.
"Liar..." replies Ritsuko as she smiles.
Then, she is shot by Gendou.
As she falls, she sees Rei in her school uniform appear, who then
quickly vanishes.

In the second announcement place, shooting continues between NERV
staff and JSSDF officers.
"How's it going outside of headquarters?" asks Makoto.
"One minute of activation is still left. Asuka is cutting it
awfully close!" replies Maya.

At the seventh cage, Shinji hasn't moved from his position.
"I'm not going to lose! My momma won't let you beat me!" comes
Asuka's voice from the wireless.
"Mother? Mother..." asks Shinji as he looks at Unit-01.

In the Geofront, Unit-02's massacre of the Mass Production model
Eva's has nearly finished, as there are only two left.
"Finally!" exclaims Asuka.
Suddenly, one of the Eva's throws it's lance at Unit-02. Asuka
puts up her A.T field in hopes of stopping it. But, in mid
flight, the weapon changes form.
"Is it the Lance of Longinus?" asks a confused Asuka.
The Lance penetrates her A.T field and embeds itself in Unit-02's
head.
Asuka lets out a scream of agony as blood flows from her left
eye. And to make matters worse, Unit-02's battery has run out of
electricity. But, even now, she's still determined not to be
beaten and keeps moving a control stick madly with her right hand
while her left holds her bleeding eye.

In the second announcement place, Maya has become aware of Unit-
02's situation.
"Eva Unit-02 has become silent. The internal battery has depleted
completely..." says Maya sadly.
Suddenly, her notebook begins to beep.
"What? It can't be! But, Asuka destroyed the Eva series..."

In the Geofront, the Mass Production model Eva's have regenerate
themselves, one after another. Like vultures, they advance
towards the fallen Unit-02.

"Are they going to finish Unit-02 off?" asks Shigeru.
Maya groans in response.
"Hey, what's going on?" asks Makoto.

The Mass Production model Eva's have begun tearing Unit-02 apart
and eating it's internal organs.

"I can't look at it anymore! I don't want to look!" exclaims Maya
as she covers her eyes with her hands.
Maya's notebook indicates that Unit-02 is being destroyed by the
Mass Production model Eva's.
"Is all of this happening to Unit-02?" asks Makoto.

In the sky above NERV headquarters, the Mass Production model
Eva's fly around with Unit-02's internal organs held in their
mouths.

"I'll kill you!" screams Asuka.

With that, Unit-02's mouth opens and its four eyes ignite. Eva
Unit-02 has reactivated.

"I'll kill you, I'll kill you, I'll kill you..." repeats Asuka.
Asuka holds her left eye with her left hand and reaches with her
other hand towards the sky where the Eva's are floating graceful-
ly.
"I'll kill you, I'll kill you, I'll kill you..."

"Has it gone beserk?" asks a bewildered Makoto.
"Stop it, Asuka! Stop it! Stop it now!" pleads Maya.

Asuka looks up at the flying Eva's with pure hatred.
"I'll kill you, I'll kill you, I'll kill you, I'll kill you, I'll
kill you, I'll kill you..." repeats Asuka.

Without warning, a Mass Production model Eva cuts Unit-02's right
arm in half. Strangely, no blood flows. The arm doesn't even
contain a bone or muscle tissue. Then, every Mass Production
model Eva throws it's Lance of Longinus at the beserk Unit-02.
The Eva is speared by all of the Lances and falls to the ground,
never to rise again.

At the seventh cage, Shinji hears Maya scream over the wireless.
"Shinji! It's Unit-02! It's Asuka! Oh God, Asuka!" cries Maya.
"I can't pilot my Eva. Nothing can be done!" exclaims Shinji.
Suddenly, Unit-01's right arm breaks the bakelite restraint and
places its hand near Shinji.
"Mother?" asks Shinji.

In Terminal Dogma, Commander Ikari has become aware of this
event.
"Has Unit-01 begun to move?"

At the Geofront, a pillar of purple light, much in the form of
a giant cross, covers the sky and changes different colours.
"It's Evangelion Unit-01..." mutters one JSSDF officer.
"It's a demon!" exclaims another.

The Geofront has become a living hell. All that remains is a
wasteland. And Unit-01 has finally entered it.
"Asuka!" cries Shinji at the horrid sight.

He is too late. Unit-02's internal organs have been revealed
without mercy. The Mass Production model Eva's are chewing on
bits of Unit-02 up in the sky.
Shinji screams at the horrible sight.
