Air


15 weeks have passed since Shinji Ikari, pilot of Eva Unit-01, 
was forced to kill Kaworu Nagisa, the seventeenth Angel.
Shinji is staring out at the new Ishino lake created by the self
destruction of Unit-00. Time has not eased the pain, but
intensified it for him.

At the central hospital, life goes on as usual with nurses moving
up and down the corridors and patients being attended to.
"The second and third blocks of the east ridge will close at 6:00
PM today. Finish all work by 6:30 PM." comes a voice over the PA
system.
But, life has a very little meaning for the patient in room 303.
Lying sedated in this room is the second child, Asuka Langley
Sohryu. She's only dressed in a shirt, which partially unbut-
toned, and her panties. Laying strew around Asuka are her bed
sheets.
Standing beside her bed is the third child, Shinji Ikari.
"I...I'm scared of Misato and Ayanami. Help me... Help me,
Asuka... Get up, Asuka... Asuka, wake up." says Shinji sadly as
he shakes the sleeping Asuka by the shoulder.
"Asuka... Asuka... Asuka... Help me, Asuka. Help me... Call me
an idiot as you would usually! Say something! Say anything, damn
it!" cries Shinji as he turns Asuka roughly towards him.
As Asuka falls on her back, her unbuttoned shirt opens up to
reveal her bare breasts.
Shinji's eyes widen as he stares at Asuka's chest.
He then looks at the door of the room.
Shinji walks over to the door and turns the lock, closing of the
door to the outside. He then makes his way over to Asuka.
As he continues to stare at her breasts, he undoes his belt and
drops his pants and underwear to his ankles.
Shinji's breathing becomes slowly more and more rapid as he
pleasures himself. He continues, his breath coming out in gasps,
until he climaxes.
When Shinji feels totally spent, he lets go off himself and
stares at his hand, which is now covered in semen.
"I'm the worst..." mutters Shinji.

Written on one of the data screens at the second announcement
place are the words:

EVA-04      erased.

Sitting at their posts and drinking coffee are Lieutenants Makoto
Hyuga and Shigeru Aoba. Lieutenant Maya Ibuki is eating a cookie.
"Is it still prohibited to go in and out of headquarters?" asks
Maya.
"I don't know. Are we still under the first class alert?" adds
Makoto.
"But why? That was the last Angel, wasn't it?" persists Maya.
"Yes. All of the Angels have been destroyed." replies Shigeru.
"So...the Angel threat is over now, right?" asks Makoto.
"Then, what will happen to the Eva's and NERV? Will it all be
shut down? And what about Dr. Akagi? She isn't even here
anymore." asks Maya.
"I personally think that NERV will be disbanded. But, in regards
us, I wouldn't have a clue." replies Shigeru.
"Well, we'll probably have to stay here until the Human
Instrumentality Project has transferred to a different location."
adds Makoto.
The time 15:49 appears on the main data screen.

It's nighttime at Tokyo-3. Stopping at a turnoff in Tokyo-3 is
Major Misato Katsuragi's car.
'Humankind has reached a deadlock in evolution as a colony of
worthless beings. The Human Instrumentality Project is supposed
to make them evolve artificially to become a perfect single
entity. Surely, this is nothing but a dream, a fantasy. For that
purpose, the committee has yet to use the Eva's to set forward
it's plan. As that is what Kaji believes will happen.' thinks
Misato to herself.

In the meeting room of SEELE, the two supreme Commanders of NERV
are in conference.
Sitting at a desk is Commander Gendou Ikari. Standing beside him
is Vice-Commander Kouzou Fuyutski. All at once, 12 monitors
appear, each representing a member of the committee.
"The promised time has come. We have lost the Lance of Longinus.
Thus, we cannot set forward human completion using Lilith.
Therefore, we can only hope for accomplishment by using Eva-01,
as she is Lilith's other self." states Keel Lorenz, the head of
SEELE.
"This is quite different from SEELE's original scenario." replies
Commander Ikari.
"The purpose of humankind's existence was to produce Eva."
comments Commander Fuyutski.
"For that very purpose, humankind should advance to the neon
genesis Evangelion series for salvation."
"We mustn't ride on the ark called Eva until we change the shape
of humankind." replies SEELE member 09.
"This is the passage ceremony for a spent humankind. Through it,
humankind will regenerate itself." declares SEELE member 12.
"The result of the downfall will be a rebirth." adds another
SEELE member.
"God, people and all that lives will become one by the means of
death." says another SEELE member.
"No. Death gives birth to nothing." replies Commander Ikari in
defiance.
"Ikari, we'll give you death." declares Keel as all 12 monitors
disappear.
"Persistence of existence on earth. That's the wish of her who
herself remained in Eva." says Commander Fuyutski.

In her apartment, Rei raises herself up from her bed and gazes
blankly at full moon out through her window. On the floor lie
Commander Ikari's glasses, totally shattered.
Rei gets up from bed and leaves her apartment.

In Misato's apartment, Shinji is lying in bed. In his ears, the
headphones from his SDAT are still present, even though the
battery indicator on his player is flashing on low.

The next morning, sitting in the darkness is Misato. As she
rapidly types on the keyboard of her notebook PC, she puts a
floppy disk in her mouth.
Misato shivers and her breath is visible in the cold.
'So, this was the real intention of the second impact, was it?'
thinks Misato as she continue typing.
The clock on Misato's notebook reads 6:00. Suddenly, an alarm is
set off.
The word 'DELETE' fills Misato's computer screen.
She begins to panic.
'It noticed me? But how? No, wait a minute. That's not right.
They haven't noticed me at all... Then that means...it's begun.'

At the second announcement place, the whole area is in turmoil.
"Change left to the blue emergency circuit. It may be an open
satellite. What's the condition of the right?" asks Commander
Fuyutski.
"All connections with the outside have been cut off. The
information circuit's being interrupted one sided." replies a
technician.
"Could it be an enemy Magi?"
"Data invasion from all the external terminals. They're trying
to hack into our Magi system!" exclaims Makoto.
"As we suspected. Could the invader be the Magi-2 system from
Matsushiro?"
"No sir. There's five types of Magis invading us...at least!
We've got invasion from Germany and China. Even America has been
identified!"
"So, it seems SEELE is utilising their entire artillery against
us. The difference in military power between us and them is a one
to five ratio. Our position is not good. Not good at all..." says
Commander Fuyutski.
"The fourth protective wall has been broken!" exclaims a
technician.
"Try to close the main data base. It's no good! We can't stop the
invasion!" cries Makoto.
"We can't prevent the attack of the spare circuit either!" adds
Maya.
"Damn. It's no doubt the same Magi that headquarters uses." says
Commander Fuyutski.
"All staff, go to second class alert! Repeat, all staff, go to
second class alert!" comes a voice over the PA system.

"D-class personnel are to hold a fixed arrangement as promptly
as possible." comes a voice over the PA system in the cell block
of NERV.
Sitting on the bunk with her head lowered is Dr. Ritsuko Akagi.
"I know what you said. So, he wants me to set up an autonomy
defense on the Magi, does he?" asks Ritsuko.
"Yes, ma'am. For further details, please ask second Lieutenant
Ibuki. She's currently stationed in the second announcement
place." replies the NERV staff member.
'When he needs her, the methods he uses to convince the woman to
do his bidding are either fair or foul. What an egoistic man he
is!' thinks Ritsuko.

"A second class alert has just been announced. All non-combatants
on the B-floor are to move to their designated shelters at once."
comes a voice over the PA system.

"What's the hell is going on?" asks Misato to her mobile phone
while making her way down the corridor.
"It's nothing good I can tell you. A while ago, an A-801 was
announced from Tokyo-2." replies Makoto.
"An A-801?"
"A special commission transferred command of the operation to the
Japanese government. It seems we're in deep trouble, Major."
"Yes, it would seem so. With the Magi being hacked at this very
moment, it seems we won't be able to use them for very long."
"This is Lieutenant Ibuki. Dr. Akagi has now begun work on
protecting the Magi." reports Maya.
As Misato rises in the lift to the second announcement place, she
is surprised at who she sees.
"Ritsuko?"

Sitting inside of one the super computers is Dr. Akagi. She's
hard at work trying to protect the third super computer, Casper.
"Am I doing something that disturbs you, mother? The relationship
between man and woman is not logical. I have never been able to
understand it. Why is that?" says Ritsuko as she strokes the
cover in which Casper's main frame is situated.

"The restoration rate of the ground circuit in Gorah is 0.2%.
Spare circuit in Hakone are still cut off." reports a technician.
"How long will it take to get the barrier up?" asks Misato as she
looks at the Magi and takes a sip of her coffee.
"We should have enough time. Dr. Akagi should be finished soon.
It will take one more minute until the 120-page latter half is
done. But, it seems it will be finished before the development
of the first protective wall in about two minutes and 30
seconds." replies Makoto.
"I don't get it. Why only attack the Magi? It seems like trying
to take us from within. Maybe..." says Misato.

"The invasion of the Magi is only a preliminary skirmish. Their
main goal is the direct occupation of headquarters and the two
remaining Evangelions." says Commander Fuyutski.
"Yes. And given the fact that we happen to also posses Lilith and
Adam." adds Commander Ikari.
"It would seem the old men of SEELE have grown impatient."

Suddenly, the data screens which indicated the Magi's status
change from red to blue and then fill up with '666' characters.
"Hacking off the Magi system has stopped. Type-B Danan protective
wall has been put up. An invasion from the outside will be
impossible for next 62 hours." reports a relieved Maya.
Creeping out from Casper is Ritsuko.
"I'll see you later, mother." says Ritsuko to the super computer
and leaves.

SEELE has now found out about the failed occupation of the Magi.
"Ikari has set up the 666 protection for the Magi. We can't break
through it." declares SEELE member 06.
"And we won't be able to. Stop the invasion of the Magi
immediately." says SEELE members 04.
"We tried to run this plan as peacefully as possible. But it was
not enough. Let's proceed with the direct occupation of NERV
headquarters." states Keel.

Moving stealthily through the forests surrounding Tokyo-3 are the
JSSDF (Japanese Strategic Self Defense Force).
"Alright, it's time. Let's move out." orders the squad commander.
As he speaks those words, tanks enter Tokyo-3, one after another,
single file.

At the second announcement place, the staff are having problems.
Monitors, which held data and images on screen, have begun to go
blank and display the message 'SIGNAL LOST' one after the other.
"Laser sites from eight to seventeen have become silent! Not only
that, but the third division of aviation has now approached us
from the Mishima direction." reports a technician.
"They've got a Special Fire battalion invading from the Gorah
defense line." says Shigeru.
"Two more battalions have approached us from the Gotenba
direction also!" adds Makoto.
"So, our final enemy is not Angelic, but human." says Commander
Fuyutski.
"Assume battle stations, level one." orders Commander Ikari.
"Battle stations? But, our enemy isn't an Angel. They're people,
just like us!" replies Maya, surprised at the order.
"It seems our companions don't share the same view." points out
Makoto.

On the surface of Tokyo-3, a wall drops open of a high rise.
Missiles are then fired towards the VTOL of the JSSDF. They
explode, and the JSSDF counter attack.

At the entrance gate of NERV, a guard stationed there observes
a JSSDF officer, armed with a rifle, carefully. Quietly, another
officer approaches the guard from behind. The officer covers the
guards mouth with his hand and pulls him back. 
"Aaarrgghhh!" cries the guard as the officer slits his throat
with a knife.
The JSSDF officer opens the main access gate to NERV and the all
of the JSSDF members rush into headquarters.

"Hey, what's going on?" exclaims a guard.
"What was that?" asks another.
"It's coming from the southern hab-station!" says a third.
Then, an explosion erupts in an armored car, killing the guards.

In the second announcement place, the staff witness the taking
of NERV.
"The tunnel passing Daiga Dake can't be used." reports a technician.
"An explosion has been detected at west entrance No. 5." adds
another.
"Invading forces have breached the first defensive layer."
"The southern hab-station has been invaded!"
"Their purpose is to kill the Eva pilots! They have to get rid
of the pilot to take over the Eva. Have Shinji activate Eva Unit-
01 immediately!" orders Misato.
"Yes, ma'am." replies Makoto.
"Where's Asuka?"
"She's still in room 303. I've confirmed it." replies Shigeru.
"Then transfer her to Unit-02. She'll be safe inside the Eva."
"But her synch score hasn't recovered yet, Major!" points out
Maya.
"She'll be surely killed if she stays there. The inside of Eva
is the safest place to hide in."
"Understood. Cutting medication off to pilot. Preparing Eva Unit-
02 for launch."
"We can hide Unit-02 at the bottom of the lake after moving
Asuka. It's better than to have the Eva sitting there in it's
cage where it will be found quickly. Now, where's Rei?"
"Her whereabouts are unknown. We can't locate her." replies
Shigeru.
"What? She's going to get herself killed. Find her immediately!"

In Central Dogma, Rei is floating in a tank filled with L.C.L.
This is the tank that contained the Rei clones. The clones that
were destroyed by Ritsuko. On a chair is her school uniform,
folded neatly.

Eva Unit-02 is catapulted out of NERV headquarters to the
Geofront.
"Eva-02 has exited via route eight. Depth is fixed at 70 meters."
reports Makoto.
"Get ready to launch Unit-01. Have it launch to the Geofront!"
orders Misato.
"We can't launch it! There's no Pilot!" exclaims Shigeru.
On a coarse black-and-white monitor, Shinji can be seen sitting
under some stairs, his knees held closely to his chest.
"What the hell is this?" demands Misato.
"Close the entire partition wall relating to the second layer of
Central Dogma. Non combatant use the 87th course." comes a voice
over the PA system.
"The underground third partition wall has been destroyed. The
second layer is being attacked!" reports Shigeru.

"All of this with one division of the JSSDF. It's just a matter
of time before headquarters is totally occupied." says Commander
Fuyutski.
"Professor Fuyutski, take charge here." states Commander Ikari
as he stands up.
"I see. Give my best regards to Yui." replies Commander Fuyutski
as Commander Ikari leaves.

"We're getting no response from the second group." says techni-
cian.
"Communication to computer room No. 77. Negative." adds another.
"Linear rail 52 has been destroyed." reports Shigeru.
"Man, these guys are vicious. The Angels were actually much
nicer!" comments Makoto.
"That's our problem. And it will no doubt be our downfall. We
aren't used to killing people..." replies Misato.

Inside NERV headquarters, it is hell on earth. A JSSDF officer
shoots a sobbing female staff member in cold who was draging her
colleague's dead body. Another fires his flamethrower into an
elevator full of people. Screams of agony echo down the passage
way. Lying strewn everywhere are dead bodies. The floors and
walls, which were once white, are now crimson red with blood.

The second announcement place is still a place of havoc and
confusion.
"Invasion has spread to B-block in the third layer. Defence is
not possible." reports a technician.
"This is F-block. Attack on both flanks at the main bypass
occurring!" exclaims Shigeru.
"We have to stop them at the third layer. Have combatants
retreat. Release bakelite into all passages and pipes up to the
803rd section." orders Misato.
"Yes, ma'am." replies Shigeru.

"Injection of bakelite has begun from the 703rd district onwards.
30 seconds is needed for completion." comes a voice over the PA
system. 
Red bakelite fills up the passage ways in NERV headquarters.

"Maybe this will slow them down a bit." says Misato.
"Injection of bakelite has begun from the 703rd district onwards.
30 seconds is needed for completion." comes a voice over the PA
system again. 
"Major Katsuragi! Squad three wasn't able to stop the advancement
of the JSSDF because route 47 was divided. If they continue in
that direction, Shinji will get..." says Makoto.

"Injection of bakelite has begun from the 703rd district onwards.
30 seconds is needed for completion."

"Try your best not to involve the non-combatants into
hand-to-hand combat." orders Misato as she pulls out her pistol
and ammunition from a drawer.

"Injection of bakelite has begun from the 703rd district onwards.
30 seconds is needed for completion."

"The enemy is very powerful. We'd better surrender if a retreat
to Terminal Dogma is impossible for us." continues Misato.
She arms the gun and gets ready to leave.
"I'm sorry. I leave rest up to you." whispers Misato in Makoto's
ear.
"It's okay. I understand." replies Makoto.
With that, Misato leaves the second announcement place to look
for Shinji.

At the JSSDF front line base in Tokyo-3, preparations are made
for advancement towards NERV headquarters.
"Mt Futago has no use to us any more. The next step is to go to
the Nagao pass." says a JSSDF officer.
"But, it will be a while before we arrive there." replies the
squad commander.
"Yeah, we've never had it easy."

Back at the second announcement place, the situation has taken
a turn for the worst.
"An explosion in the second announcement place has been confirmed
first hand." comes a voice over the PA system.
"The odds are against us. This place was never prepared for an
organised anti-personnel ambush operation!" exclaims Makoto.
"It's only equipped to stop a terrorist attack, not something of
this magnitude!" adds Shigeru. 
"The JSSDF will no doubt destroy this establishment easily and
without a lot of resistance."
"Come to think of it, did they know about this all along and cut
our budget down purposely so that they could invade headquarters
easily?"
"It could be..." replies Makoto.
Suddenly, a JSSDF squad, armed with shields and guns blazing,
enter the second announcement place.
"Look out!" shouts Makoto as he and Shigeru crouch down on the
floor.
As bullets fly overhead, Shigeru gives a pistol to a frightened
Maya who is holding onto a cushion.
"You've got to arm the gun!" exclaims Shigeru.
"I...I can't fire a gun!" replies Maya.
"What? Didn't you use one during training?"
"No one was there at that time!" replies Maya.
"What kind of stupidity is that? You'll die if you won't fire
back!"
Maya becomes more frightened at this statement as she knows it
is the truth.
