Save them to your computer and use the "Personal Avatar"/"Avatar Upload" option.
Under your member name, you can select an "Avatar." Previously the only avatars you could use were provided to you, but recently a feature to upload or link your own avatar was added.
You select your avatar by clicking on the "Profile" link next to where the board says, "Welcome, Your Name:" (This also happens to be where you can edit your member information and change your password.)
If you want to use one of AG's pre-made avatars, just look through the list of files displayed in the Profile...
If you want to link your own avatar, you have to have webspace. Free webpage providers like Geocities, Angelfire, and Tripod will not work. They don't allow you to link files from "external" locations (such as AG--AG is "external" to Geocities, Angelfire, or Tripod). To use this option, make sure "External" is highlighted above the list of AG avatar files. Then enter the URL of the avatar in the area next to the "External Avatar" option (the box already says http://).
If you want to upload your own avatar, click "Browse" and find the file on your computer, then click, "Ok." The file name should appear in the area next to the "Browse" button. Make sure that the "Personal" option is highlighted above the list of AG avatar files. Then click "Submit" to update your profile. If you don't see your new avatar appear in your posts immediately, try clicking "refresh" on your browser.
The avatar must be 48x48 pixels.
The avatar must have a 1-3px black border.
The avatar must be in .gif format.
The avatar should be anime-related.
The avatar should not be grossly offensive.
Ex says that if the feature is abused that it will be removed.
Common problems
If you are having trouble linking to your avatar, first check:
- have you typed the URL correctly? (http://www.domain.com/folder/file.gif)
solution: correct any typos
- is the file still in the location you've entered?
solution: find the real location of the file
- is the file .gif?
solution: convert the file to .gif
- is the file hosted somewhere that doesn't allow external linking? (such as Geocities, Angelfire, or Tripod)
solution: try saving the file to your harddrive and using the upload avatar feature
If you are having trouble uploading to your avatar, first check:
- is the file .gif?
solution: convert the file to .gif
- is the file over 30kb in size?
solution: try to make the file smaller
