"Well, what's the news?" Justin asked.
"Joey suffered some major injuries that took quite a while to repair, along with some minor injuries. He has been unstable throughout the day, but now he's starting to show some good signs," the doctor explained.
"So he'll be okay, right?" Chris asked, looking up at the doctor.
"Yes, he'll be good as new in a few weeks. We'll be keeping here a few days to make sure we fixed everything, but you'll be able to take him home by the end of the week if we find nothing."
"Great!"
The doctor looked around at all of the relieved faces and smiled.
"Can I see him?" Chris asked.
"Yes, follow me," the doctor said with a nod, turning and heading out of the waiting room.
Chris stood up and followed him to Joey's room, where the doctor left him.
Chris peered into the room, and his heart wrenched at the sight of his best friend laying before him. He walked in and slowly made his way over to a chair that was next to the bed. He sat down quietly, watching the peaceful look on Joey's face as he slept.
Chris put his hand over Joey's and closed his eyes, leaning back in the chair. Just as he was almost asleep, he felt pressure on his hand. He opened his eyes and rolled his head to the side, looking Joey straight in the eye.
"Joey! Joe, are you okay?" Chris asked, bolting up in the chair.
"I'm okay, Chris. Throat hurts a bit, though..." Joey whispered, not able to go any louder than that.
Chris looked around and spotted a cup that had some water in it. It was still cold, so he held it as Joey took a few sips, then set it back down on the little table he got it from.
"Joe, listen. I'm really sorry that I-"
"Chris, don't. You had a right to be upset with me. I didn't think about you, or anything she did. To be honest... It was just the sex.
"I had been thinking about it all day after it happened, and broke it off with her last night. I was heading home when this car swerved in front of me. I don't remember anything after that."
"Well, I had a dream that you were in an accident, and woke up in the middle of the night. I couldn't shake the bad feeling I had so I went out looking for you, just to make sure. I was about to go home when I found you."
"My car's trashed, isn't it."
Chris nodded in response.
"Damn..." Joey shifted so he was propped up a little more and sighed, already feeling restless.
"So did they say when I get to leave?"
"If you survive the week they'll send you home. Sure you can make it, with all the hot chicks taking care of you?" Chris said, smiling as he saw the grin on Joey's face.
"I don't know man, maybe I won't wanna leave if that's the case."
"They'll be kicking you out for harassing the women. I think you'd better just come home when they tell ya to."
"You're just missin me."
"Yeah, actually. Who else can I blame everything on?"
"I guess if you need me that much... How's Michelle?"
"She's good. Really worried about you. She called out of work this morning so she could be here with me."
"She's definitely a keeper, man."
"I know..." Chris looked up as the same doctor he had talked to came in.
"Joey, how are you feeling?" he asked walking over to check Joey's vitals.
"I'm fine. Can't feel anything."
"That's good. You really should get some sleep now, though."
Chris took that as his cue to leave. He stood up and stretched, then looked down at Joey.
"Don't go running off, now."
"Yeah, really... Go eat. You look like you haven't eaten and we both know what can happen."
"Right. Go eat, then I'm gonna sleep. I didn't get much sleep last night, obviously."
"See ya later, Chris."
"Bye, Joey," Chris walked out of the room and back into the waiting room.
"I'm about ready for some food." he said, starting to feel the results of his day of fasting.
"My friends at work want to know how Joey's doing, why don't we go there to eat?" Michelle suggested.
"That sounds great," Chris said, putting his arms around her after she stood up.
"You guys in?" all of the guys nodded and they headed out to Norr's diner.
Chris, Michelle and the guys all ate as Chris told them and Michelle's co-workers how Joey was. After they were all finished they all headed back home, the guys going back to their own homes to let Chris and Michelle have some time alone.
Chris and Michelle walked into the house, Chris heading immediately to the living room and dropping down on the couch. Michelle came in behind him and stood behind him, rubbing his shoulders. Chris let out a soft moan as he started to relax.
Michelle walked around the side of the couch and curled up next to Chris, resting her head on his chest. Chris put his arms around her and sighed softly, closing his eyes.
"Chris?"
"Yeah Michelle?"
"I love you."
"I love you, too."
