Chapter One

Sunlight filtered through the dark blue curtains of Chris's room, casting light onto his face. He shifted onto his left side to get away from it and groaned, pulling one of his pillows to him. He opened his eyes reluctantly and sighed, trying to remember if he had to be somewhere that day. He was about to go back to sleep when the phone rang. He rolled over, sunlight hitting his face again. He covered his eyes with his arm and grabbed the phone.

"What?" he asked with a yawn.

"Good morning sunshine."

"Oh, hi Joe," Chris said, sitting up and wiping the sleep from his eyes.

"Hey. Did I wake you up?"

Chris pulled on his jeans and walked to his closet.

"Naw, I've been awake for a few minutes. What's up?"

"Nothing right now."

"Sounds interesting."

"Doesnt it? Anyway, I called because I'm having a party tonight."

"What time?"

"People are gonna start showing up around seven."

Chris pulled on one of his shirts and thought for a moment.

"Alright, Joe. I'll be there."

"Great. See ya then."

"Bye."

Chris hung up and stretched again, then went downstairs. He grabbed an apple from the fridge and poured a glass of orange juice, then went out and set his items down, dropping down onto the couch.

It had been a while since he'd had any time off, and he usually perfered it that way. He loved his job, but that wasn't the full reason. Working constantly kept his mind off of the fact that he was alone. If he had his mind focused on different projects he wouldn't have to think about it.

He knew he couldn't keep going on like this. He had tried to date, but he just couldn't bring himself to really give his heart to someone. Not after his last girlfriend, Ashley, had cheated on him. Every time he felt himself starting to fall for someone he'd back out.

He turned on the t.v and flipped through the channels, looking for something to watch, but he really wasn't in the mood to watch anything. He just couldn't stand the silence. He drank half of his orange juice, but left the apple untouched. He shifted to his back and closed his eyes.

~Flashback~

Chris walked up behind his girlfriend and put his arms around her.

"Hey baby," Ashley smiled, leaning back against him. I thought you were gone until next week..."

"Change of plans. Wanna go rent some movies?" he asked, kissing her neck softly.

"Will we actually watch them this time?" Ashley smirked.

"I don't know, maybe."

"In that case, yeah."

Chris smiled and they went off to pick out some movies. After they picked out what they wanted, Chris paid for them and they headed back home. They ordered chinese, Ashley's favorite, and curled up on the couch together.

They managed to watch one of the movies and got half way through the next movie before they lost intrest. They kissed gently for a few minutes, and then he carried her upstairs to their room.

~End Flashback~

Chris wiped some loose tears from his cheeks and sat up. He hated to think of her. He loved her so much, and she tore his heart out. He started flipping through the channels again, to try getting his mind off of her, and finally just desided to put in one of his own movies. He decided he didn't want the apple, and made a sandwich instead, then started watching movies.

He looked at the clock after the last movie he watched, and figured he should get ready for Joey's party. He stood up and headed upstairs to shower, then he got dressed.

"Why am I doing this?" Chris asked aloud as he dried and brushed his hair.

"I'll just end up meeting a girl, getting scared, and leaving. Maybe I shouldn't go..."

He put the brush down and started to spike his hair. When he was finnished he put on his necklace, earrings, and some CK One, then grabbed his deninm jacket and went downstairs.

"No, I told Joey I'd come, so I'm going," he said, pulling on the jacket and grabbing his keys. He headed out to his car and drove to Joey's.
